Fast & Furious 11 Gets Filming Update From Tyrese Gibson That Points To Release Delay

Summary Back-to-back Hollywood strikes have caused delays in filming Fast & Furious 11, pushing a potential release to 2025.

Despite challenges, Universal Pictures aims for a satisfying conclusion to the main Fast & Furious franchise with Fast & Furious 11.

Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson offer insights on the production struggles and possible storyline for the upcoming blockbuster.

Fast & Furious 11 gets a filming update from Tyrese Gibson that suggests a delayed release. The sequel, confirmed to wrap up the main Fast & Furious franchise, is being directed by Louis Leterrier and will serve as a continuation of Fast X. Despite the large budget and brief transition between installments, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes reportedly affected the upcoming finale. Plot details remain scarce as well, but Vin Diesel previously revealed that Fast & Furious 11 would include an end to Brian O’Connor’s storyline (famously portrayed by the late Paul Walker).

Diesel also revealed that Fast & Furious 11 would release in April 2025, but Gibson’s latest update points to a potential delay. During an interview with CBR, the actor, who plays Roman Pierce throughout the franchise, explained that production on Fast & Furious 11 will begin next year. Read Gibson’s quote below:

"Because of the strike, both strikes, there were some real delays in writing and kind of getting the film up on its feet. I'm hearing that we're going to get it going right in 2025, right at the top of the year."

How Filming Delays Might Impact Fast & Furious 11

Close

The Hollywood strikes, as predicted, hindered several major blockbusters, including Fast & Furious 11. While Universal Pictures aimed for a release strategy similar to past installments, ensuring that the Fast & Furious franchise ends favorably will be important, given the underwhelming box office performance of Fast X. The penultimate entry made headlines for its increasing budget, but failed to cross $1 billion, earning a lower total than many of its recent predecessors.

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes against the AMPTP ended in September and November, respectively.

Diesel continues to celebrate the Fast & Furious franchise and update fans on the filming process with behind-the-scenes content, involving cast photos and stunt preparation. There may be some concerns about the impediments of a delayed production but, if done right, Fast & Furious 11 will conclude decades of storytelling and character arcs. It will likely focus on the cliffhanger from Fast X surrounding Dom Toretto (Diesel) and Little B as well, and feature the return of Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa), who Leterrier teased would be different this time around.

It will be interesting to see whether filming for Fast & Furious 11 begins next year, as Gibson revealed, and how long the whole process will actually be. Because the long-running franchise has held up in popular culture, and among a wide range of audiences, the upcoming finale may still be successful, regardless of its delayed release.
