How To Find (& Beat) The Butler In Lethal Company

The Butler is a new monster in Lethal Company and one of the most humanoid entities you can encounter on a salvage run. It is a round figure with a gray overcoat and red bow tie. It has short black hair and a face resembling a blob fish. They are described as smelling of rotten meat and act as a lurking threat within the halls of the moon's facility.

The Butler joins the roster of dangerous entities alongside the Old Bird in Lethal Company, although the Butler is an indoor entity where the Old Bird can only be found outdoors. The Butler is less dangerous than the killer robot and can be safely approached. However, whatever you do, you should not approach the Butler without another employee at your side.

How To Survive An Encounter With The Butler

What To Do If You Are Caught Alone

Most of the time, the Butler is a passive entity found on mansion moons. You'll find the Butler casually sweeping the halls with their broom, patiently ignoring groups of employees running about. They will wander around the mansion looking for employees, seemingly minding their own business.

If the Butler finds an employee in the company of one or more other employees, they will remain in their passive state. For most salvage runs to mansion moons, it is therefore better to at least have one partner nearby to cull the murderous tendencies of the Butler.

The Butler is most commonly encountered in the mansion on Dine, but can also spawn on Artifice, Rend, or Adamance.

However, if the Butler finds you alone (or you decide to attack the Butler), a discordant soundtrack will accompany the Butler's rampage as they take out a kitchen knife and proceed to chase you down. If this happens to you, break line of sight as soon as possible, preferably by getting a door between you and the Butler as the Butler takes between 15 and 30 seconds to open a door.

Upon losing you, it may look like the Butler is back in its passive state but do not be fooled. They are still searching for you and merely acting passively to lure you into a safe sense of security.

If you want to kill this entity in Lethal Company, it won't be very hard. It takes six shovel hits to kill the Butler in its passive state, which can be possible if you gang up on them as they take a few seconds to switch their broom for a knife. Meanwhile, it only takes one shovel hit to kill the Butler while they are attacking, although this is difficult to do without getting stabbed.

The problem with killing the Butler comes in the aftermath. Upon death, the Butler will explode and release a horde of Mask Hornets.

Mask Hornets cannot be killed, but they are susceptible to shock.

Mask Hornets are technically another new entity in Lethal Company, but they only spawn after the death of a Butler. Their behavior is similar to that of Circuit Bees, but far more aggressive. They will hunt down employees in the facility and make it difficult to continue salvaging on the moon.

If you're quick about it, you can grab the Butler's kitchen knife from their deflated suit. The knife is a quick weapon that works on many enemies, but it won't help against the invulnerable Mask Hornets.

The Butler's knife can be sold as salvage for 35c. However, due to the difficulty of avoiding Mask Hornets, it may not be worth invoking the Butler's wrath just to get a speedy weapon. All in all, if you encounter a Butler in Lethal Company, it is better to only approach them as a group and leave them to their duties.
