Netflix's latest K-drama The Atypical Family features a spectacular cast who will bring the story of the troubled Bok family to life. Though each member of the Bok family has been given a supernatural gift, modern problems leave them powerless and at the mercy of everyday life. Premiering on JTBC on May 4, 2024, and subsequently being streamed on Netflix following its release in South Korea, The Atypical Family navigates themes of depression, eating disorders, and insomnia in a K-drama that feels like Encanto for adults.
The Atypical Family is helmed by director Jo Hyun-tak, whose previous work includes smash-hits Snowdrop (2021-2022) and SKY Castle (2018-2019). He is joined by writer Joo Hwa-mi, who has penned K-dramas Welcome (2020) and My Shy Boss (2017). The Atypical Family is expected to follow a darker tone in the fantasy-romance K-drama genre looks to be another exciting 2024 K-drama that is supported by an incredible cast.

Actor: Initially beginning his career as a model, Jang Ki-young started his onscreen career with a brief cameo in Its Okay That's Love (2014) before landing his first speaking role as Bae Deu-ro in The Greatest Marriage (2014). Jang would then land his first leading role as rookie detective Chae Do-jin in the melodrama Come and Hug Me (2018), which led him to win the Baeksang Award for Best New Actor in 2019.
Since his win, Jang Ki-young has had prominent roles in several other K-dramas, such as Search: WWW (2019), My Roommate is a Gumiho (2021) and Now, We are Breaking Up (2021-2022), alongside The Glory's Song Hye-kyo. Jang Ki-young's appearance in The Atypical Family is his first appearance onscreen since completing his military service in February 2023.

Actor: Chun Woo-hee made her acting debut in 2004, but rose to prominence due to her portrayal of a rebellious teenager in the box-office hit Sunny (2011). Chun would go on to win many awards for her role in Han Gong-ju (2013), including a Blue Dragon Award for Best Actress. Though Chun has yet to win another Blue Dragon Award, she was nominated for her roles in 2016's The Wailing and 2022's The Anchor.
Chun Woo-hee has also starred in several K-dramas including Delightfully Deceitful (2023) as a con artist who lacks empathy and Be Melodramatic (2019) as a rookie screenwriter. Actor: Jeju Island native Ko Du-shim has been an active member in film, TV and theater for over 50 years, and is the only actor to have received Daesang awards (the highest award recognition in South Korea) from all three major Korean broadcasters plus the Baeksang Art Awards. Ko Du-shim is well known for playing motherly roles, earning her the title of "Nation's Mother" in the late 90's and 2000's. Park So-yi as Bok Yi-na: Park So-yi is well-known for playing the younger counterparts of Korean actresses, including Kim Go-eun, Park Min-young, and Shin Hye-sun. She was most recently awarded Best Young Actress at the SBS Drama Awards for her role in Revenant (2023). Park So-yi plays the role of Bok Yi-na, Gwi-joo's daughter whose powers are unknown.
Oh Man-seok as Eom Soon-goo: Oh Man-Seok made his acting debut in 2007, and has starred in many K-dramas, including Law School (2017) and Wonderful World (2024). In The Atypical Family, Oh Man-seok takes on the role of Eom Soon-goo, who is the husband of Bok Man-heum and father of Bok Gwi-joo and Bok Dong-hee.
Kim Geum-soon as Baek Il-hong: In The Atypical Family, Kim Geum-soon plays Baek Il-hong, Do Da-hee's mother. Kim Geum-soon made her acting debut in 2013 and has since appeared in several supporting roles across TV and film, with recent titles including The Worst of Evil (2023), Broker (2022), and Sleep (2023).
Ryu Abel as Grace: Born as Ryu Sun-young, Ryu Abel made her K-drama debut in My Mister (2016), almost ten years after her big screen debut in Let The Blue River Run (2009). Ryu has since starred in K-dramas such as Run On (2020-2021) and A Good Day To Be A Dog (2023). Ryu Abel will play Do Da-hee's younger sister, Grace.
Roy as No Hyung-tae: Roy (Choi Kwang-rok) is a relatively new face in the entertainment industry. Roy's debut came as Luis Benuel in Green Mothers' Club (2022) and he most recently appeared as Eknad in Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun (2023). Roy will play Do Da-hee's uncle in The Atypical Family.
