John Krasinski’s Horror Sequel With 91% On RT Is Now On Netflix, And It Helps Pay Off Another 2024 Movie

John Krasinski's A Quiet Place Part II, the follow-up to his previous horror hit, is now available on Netflix, and the movie makes a story within a recent 2024 release even better. Krasinski launched the franchise in 2018, serving as the writer/director and starring as part of A Quiet Place's cast alongside his real-life wife, Emily Blunt. The 2021 sequel marks Krasinski's fourth movie that he directed, but that number has since increased with 2024's fantasy film IF. While Krasinski might be best known for his roles in front of the camera, especially due to his time playing Jim on The Office, his body of work as a filmmaker continues to grow, thanks in part to the A Quiet Place movies.

The first movie in the A Quiet Place franchise follows the Abbott family following an alien invasion, which forces them to flee to upstate New York. After decimating a large portion of the population, A Quiet Place's aliens continue their takeover as they rely on their enhanced sense of sound, forcing survivors to remain as silent as possible. Considering Lee and Evelyn's daughter is deaf, the family is already experienced with sign language, but the family still encounters their fair share of challenges. Aside from A Quiet Place's spaceship incident, Evelyn's pregnancy significantly impacts the original movie and its sequel.

John Krasinski's sequel arrived three years after the original movie, and A Quiet Place Part II is now officially available to stream on Netflix. The arrival comes as Netflix has acquired a handful of notable horror movies to ramp up for the Halloween season, in addition to their own original programming. The 2021 sequel is set a year after the original movie and still follows the surviving members of the Abbott family following the death of Lee in A Quiet Place's ending. While searching for a new place to live with a baby in tow, Evelyn, Regan, and Marcus encounter fellow survivors. Regan also discovers crucial info on how to protect themselves from the aliens, or "Angels."

Krasinski isn't a lead member of A Quiet Place Part II's cast, but he does reprise his role as Lee. The beginning of the movie shifts back A Quiet Place's timeline by presenting the actual day of the alien invasion and how the Abbotts initially survived the disastrous event. Of course, Krasinski also plays a pivotal role in the sequel by writing the script and returning to direct. Based on the immense success of the first movie in 2018, the development of the sequel got rolling right away, with expectations very high leading into the follow-up due to A Quiet Place's success.

A Quiet Place Part 2's Box Office & Reviews Explained - How It Compares To The First Movie

John Krasinski's Horror Movies Have Been A Hit

A Quiet Place came in the #15 spot on the 2018 list for box office performance, earning $188 million (via Box Office Mojo). Worldwide, the movie totaled $340 million, which was well above expectations. Considering the $17 million budget, Paramount Pictures was very pleased with Krasinski's horror movie, and the same could be said with critics and audiences. A Quiet Place still stands at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an audience score slightly lower but impressive at 83%. Much of the praise stemmed from the premise's originality, especially when alien invasion movies often fall into tired sci-fi tropes, and the story didn't lose steam in A Quiet Place Part II.

Not only did the sequel live up to the tense expectations of the first movie, but A Quiet Place II's cast gets a boost from Cillian Murphy...

John Krasinski's A Quiet Place sequel was initially slated for a wide release in March 2020, the same month lockdowns occurred worldwide due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The delays resulted in the sequel not arriving until May 2021, but even then, its release went down a bit differently than what was originally planned. A Quiet Place Part II made $160 million domestically and nearly $300 million worldwide from a $61 million budget. However, those numbers came during A Quiet Place Part II's shortened theatrical window, only running 45 days before hitting Paramount+ as part of Paramount's streaming release strategy tied to the COVID-19 restrictions.

As for the reception, A Quiet Place Part II still fared incredibly well, with the sequel garnering a "Certified Fresh" 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. Fan reception was more in line with critics this time, seeing as the audience score came in at 92%. Not only did the sequel live up to the tense expectations of the first movie, but A Quiet Place II's cast gets a boost from Cillian Murphy, a fellow survivor who comes in contact with the Abbotts on their journey of survival. Granted, Murphy isn't the only intriguing new aspect of the sequel.

A Quiet Place Part II also introduces Djimon Hounsou, the leader of an island settlement that becomes vital to the Abbott family's potential future. The mysterious character is an intriguing aspect of the sequel, and thankfully, his story gets expanded in A Quiet Place: Day One, the franchise prequel released in June 2024. Krasinski co-wrote the prequel, but Hounsou is the only returning character in A Quiet Place: Day One, where he's officially introduced as Henri alongside his wife and son to provide insight into his origins. While A Quiet Place Part 3 is still in development, there's still a chance Day One will spawn more prequel stories.
