Scrubs Season 10 Bringing Back This Guest Star For A Cameo Would Be Nothing Like Their 21-Year-Old Episode

Scrubs Season 10 Bringing Back This Guest Star For A Cameo Would Be Nothing Like Their 21-Year-Old Episode

Scrubs had several guest stars that varied in their level of fame, but if the show's revival plans pay off, the return of one minor side character from the original run would be completely different from their debut back in 2003. Although the Scrubs revival hasn't been confirmed, those associated with the medical sitcom have been incredibly vocal about its imminent comeback. Showrunner Bill Lawrence has gone as far as to say that it's "definitely going to" happen. So, it just seems like a matter of time at this point before JD and company are back on TV.

Throughout all nine seasons of Scrubs, guest stars played a big part in the sitcom's success. For instance, Michael J. Fox's Scrubs season 3 episodes are still renowned as some of the show's best efforts. Some temporary cast members left a bigger mark than others, but their fame at the time of their episodes wasn't always a factor in how effective they were. For one star in particular, they have since become a household name. However, they weren't quite as well-known when they were on Scrubs.

Ryan Reynolds Returning As Spence In Scrubs' Revival Would Be Nothing Like "My Dream Job"

Spence's lone appearance came in the Scrubs season 2 finale

It seems strange to remember a time when Ryan Reynolds wasn't solidly in the public eye, but that was the case when he played Spence in Scrubs season 2, episode 22, "My Dream Job." Although the success of 2002's Van Wilder: Party Liaison had boosted Reynolds' profile somewhat, he was still very far from the superstar status he has since achieved. Reynolds' role in "My Dream Job" is incredibly limited, and he isn't given all that much to do. While he plays the part well, Spence is fairly forgettable and Scrubs doesn't make much of a fuss about casting Reynolds.

When the sitcom returns, another Ryan Reynolds appearance would be impossible to ignore. The writers would be far more likely to give him a much more prominent role in the episode, with Spence essentially taking center stage throughout. He would arguably overshadow the entire installment, which wouldn't be unreasonable given how famous he's become since his first Scrubs appearance. From a story standpoint, a Spence comeback would probably be pretty low on the list of priorities for Scrubs season 10, but the fact that he's played by Ryan Reynolds drastically alters the appeal.

Although Reynolds began his acting career by splitting his time between TV shows and movies, the former is very rare for him these days. There's also the consideration that he's now so sought after due to the success of the Deadpool movies, Scrubs may not be able to afford to pay him. On the other hand, his strong connection to Disney and the MCU may work ever so slightly in the sitcom's favor, as Scrubs is also the property of the same studio. That being said, it's still difficult to imagine Reynolds showing up in Scrubs again, no matter how great it would be.
