Slow Horses Season 5 Gets Exciting Filming Update From Showrunner: "Don't Worry, It's Coming"

The article contains spoilers for the Slow Horses season 4 finale.Slow Horses season 5 gets an exciting filming update from producer and showrunner Will Smith. The Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ series went into its fourth installment with the knowledge there would be a fifth, with season 4 having the space to end on a more character-focused note. But, after breaking through at the Emmys, with nine nominations at the most recent ceremony, Slow Horses season 5 is very much on the way, and it may premiere sooner than anticipated.

In recent comments to Collider, Smith gave an update on the show's return to Apple TV+ and said that only a few days of filming remain, but the process has already moved on to editing. In the quote below, the executive producer also offered a general tease of when season 5 might premiere:

We've nearly done season 5. We've got a couple of days to finish off on it, but we're already into the edit, so it's coming. Don't worry, it's coming. Not as quick as you want, but it's coming.

Although Slow Horses season 1 was released in April, subsequent installments are usually released in the latter half of the year. The first two seasons were already filmed, both premiering in 2022, while seasons 3 and 4 were released in separate years. Since the spy dramedy doesn't stick to a specific window, that could mean viewers can expect to see new episodes as early as the middle of 2025. This is based on the fact that there were roughly six months between the first two seasons, while the most recent seasons were released roughly a year apart.

The show is based on the Slough House novels by author Mick Herron, with the upcoming episodes adapting the London Rules novel. The story sees actor Christopher Chung step into a more spotlighted role in the Slow Horses cast, with Roddy Ho apparently becoming a target. The preview, which was shown after season 4, also teased a potential romance between River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) and Louisa Guy (Rosalind Eleazar).

After the twist that the mercenary Frank Harness (Hugo Weaving) is River's father, the young Cartwright shares a drink in silence with Jackson Lamb. He's dealing with the difficulty of having left his grandfather in a retirement home because the memory issues of David Cartwright have become a danger to others.

The Slough House team is also dealing with the death of Marcus (Kadiff Kirwan), which hits Shirley (Aimee-Ffion Edwards) the hardest. Standish (Saskia Reeves) will likely be back at Slough House soon.

But well before Slow Horses season 5 debuts, the attention shifts to a potential sixth installment. The spy series is no stranger to early renewals, and after what might be the adaptation's strongest outing yet, with the Emmy recognition and media attention, it may just be a matter of time before Oldman's Jackson Lamb and the rest of the crew get official confirmation of what's on the horizon.
