The Next Mistborn Book Already Has A Huge Advantage Over Era 2

Brandon Sanderson will begin writing Era 3 of his Mistborn series in 2025, with the third trilogy being referred to as the Ghostbloods Trilogy, and it will have one massive advantage over Era 2. Based on the success of Era 1 (Original Trilogy) and then Era 2 (Wax and Wayne Series), the third era is expected to have further success as it continues to evolve Mistborn’s ever-expanding magical system and timeline with a new story.

In Era 1, Sanderson focused on a medieval-like setting that included a dystopian empire, a defined class system based on feudal hierarchy, and Dark-Age weaponry. Sanderson then took a 200-year leap in time for the Wax and Wayne Series, placing his characters in a Wild West setting wherein constables upheld the law touting guns, grit, and an advanced metal-based magical system. Sanderson’s desire to create a continually evolving fantasy storyline was successfully realized and sets up Mistborn Era 3 to be a huge success.

Creating a completely new story from Era 1 to Era 2 was no easy feat, but Sanderson successfully showed that he could evolve Scadrial, allowing readers to await the next Mistborn series with confidence. The Wax and Wayne Series built a new and progressive story that evolved from gun battles to launching rockets, from disempowered women to feminist icons, from a compartmentalized magic system to a more experimental and fluid structure.

Era 3 is another new storyline that supposedly takes place in Scadrial’s early computer age.

Readers will be excited to see how quickly Sanderson progresses technology and the magic system. Additionally, the organization the new series is named after, the Ghostbloods, was founded by Mistborn’s Kelsier to traverse the many planets of the cosmere (Sanderson's fictional universe that navigates many of his different series), securing Scadrial’s future. With Sanderson showing that he can create new stories to successfully expand the Mistborn world, this vast extension is not only consistent, but thanks to Era 2, is actively looked forward to by readers.
