2 Carat Diamond Rings - Magnificent Engagement Rings

The Sancy four-claw engagement ring set with a 2-carat diamond

A 2-carat diamond ring offers the wearer a true feeling of luxury—either from a 2-carat diamond or a 2-carat diamond set into jewellery. The difference sounds subtle but has a great impact on the price.

2 carat diamond rings vs 2 carats of diamonds in a ring

Firstly, a classic 2-carat diamond solitaire ring provides the perfect way to display a large diamond. Take the Lila design, for example. Here, we see a simple setting perfectly suited to a 2-carat diamond.

View the Lila engagement ring, available as a finished ring mount, set with a natural diamond, or a lab-grown diamond, or thirdly, a Moissanite.

The ring features all 2 carats of diamond in one stone. By comparison, a ring set with many smaller diamonds totalling 2 carats costs far less.

7 Stone Engagement Rings

We create many ‘cluster’ ring styles, set with 2 carats of diamonds divided across a set of 7 diamonds. We carry regular designs such as the Daisy 7-stone ring (see below) or make bespoke versions.

For example, we frequently create the Daisy diamond cluster ring with 7 diamonds weighing 2 carats in total diamond weight.

2 Carat Diamond Bubble rings

From our Bubble ring collection, the Bowery 2-carat diamond ring design features seven diamonds with a total carat weight of 2 carats.

Bubble rings serve many occasions. Occasionally, we create the Bowery ring as an engagement ring. We have even crafted a specially shaped wedding ring to fit the design.

2-carat engagement ring settings

2-carat engagement rings stand apart as a result of the ring design chosen. For this reason, the setting makes an important decision for buyers. For example, a simple setting elevates the beauty of your diamond.

Your ring design should provide an immaculate setting focusing on your diamond.

Regarding precious metals, we recommend 950 Platinum as the best metal choice. Platinum provides a luxurious metal choice with a natural whiteness without Rhodium plating. Furthermore, Platinum offers strength and beauty worthy of the most expensive diamond. Finally, 950 Platinum feels dense compared to other metals and carries a higher intrinsic value than Silver and 9ct Gold.

If you prefer some colour to your precious metal, why not opt for Yellow or Rose Gold with a Platinum setting—a perfect combination for your diamond? Alternatively, a solitaire engagement ring made entirely from yellow or rose gold looks equally stunning.

2-carat diamond ring shapes

From classic, brilliant-cut diamonds to slender Marquise cuts, diamonds come in all shapes, colours and clarities.

Round brilliant cuts and Princess cuts outsell most other shapes by a country mile.

Unusual shapes like the Cushion cut are favourable alternatives for the diamond connoisseur. Emerald-cut engagement rings provide a more subtle look with less flash and more fire than brilliant cuts.

Finally, other choices exist, such as radiant cuts, oval brilliant cuts, pear shapes, heart shapes, and trilliant-cut diamonds.

We created the above bespoke 2-carat radiant-cut diamond ring for a client, set with a 2.20-carat lab-grown diamond and natural princess-cut diamond shoulders.

Where can you view 2-carat diamonds?

Many of our clients book an appointment to view diamonds. They appreciate the hands-on approach to selecting a perfect diamond.

Our luxury showroom is a stone’s throw from the beautiful Isle of Wight coastline and long stretches of sandy beach—perfect for a romantic getaway with a little ring shopping!

Please give us a little notice; we are happy to source diamonds for your appointment.

For clients unable to visit us, we can provide high-resolution photography of any suggested diamonds. This process can be far better than viewing a diamond with the naked eye.

Judging diamond quality without seeing the diamond

Recently, our clients have benefited from high-definition videos of potential diamonds. Most of our larger polished diamonds include a clear video to allow clients to see their prospective diamonds without looking at the stone in person.

We sent this example video to one of our clients overseas.

The following video shows a good example of the HD video of a 2ct diamond, with the GIA report for our client to consider.

What are the best colour and clarity grades for 2-carat diamonds?

Only some buyers choose the best diamond colour and clarity for their 2-carat ring. Owing to the rarity of single diamonds, most buyers select a suitable colour and clarity to ensure a white and clear diamond. As we have seen, ‘D’ represents the best diamond colour grade.

At the same time, Flawless or Internal Flawless represent the best clarity grades. However, prices skyrocket at the highest quality. For this reason, we recommend G or H colour and between VS1 clarity and SI1 clarity with only very slight or slight inclusions.

How to choose your 2-carat setting

Consider designs with added security. Build quality remains very important. Six claws give added security – embracing the diamond evenly around the girdle.

We also provide a complete bespoke ring design service to create a unique, one-of-a-kind 2-carat ring design set with any diamond or gemstone.

14k White Gold vs 18ct White Gold

We receive many requests for 14k white gold but insist on 18ct White Gold instead. The purer 18ct White Gold has a greater density and is more hypo-allergenic than 9ct White Gold and 14k White Gold, popular in the US.

2-carat lab-grown diamond rings

We work with natural and lab-grown diamonds and a full selection of gemstones. Regarding appearance, natural and lab-grown diamonds look identical and have the same physical properties.

Lab-grown diamonds include a laser inscription on the stone’s girdle to confirm the authenticity of the diamond.

The cost of a diamond varies according to several factors. For example, lab-grown 2-carat diamonds cost approximately half the price of a natural diamond. For this reason, they are a popular alternative to natural diamonds.

2-carat diamond necklaces

Like most jewellers, we create incredible jewellery in various designs. In addition to diamond rings, we craft exquisite diamond necklaces. Styles vary from classic solitaire pendants to elaborate 2-carat diamond cluster pendants with natural or lab-grown diamonds.

Our example below shows a 2 carat Emerald cut diamond necklace styled with a diamond set loop and presented in our Serendipity Diamonds box. Owing to the variation in diamond proportions, we CAD design most pendant settings, working to the precise measurements of the chosen diamond.

2-carat diamond earrings

Buyers have two main choices for diamond earrings. Firstly, a pair of single diamond solitaire earrings—with 1 carat in each ear. Alternatively, we sometimes divide the 2-carat weight between multiple diamonds.

For example, three-stone ‘Trilogy’ earrings will divide 2 carats across six diamonds. As a result, each diamond will measure 4.5mm and weigh 0.33 carats. In essence, multiple diamond earrings cost far less compared to solitaire designs with two single diamonds.

Another consideration with a huge influence on price comes from the origin of each diamond. Natural diamonds originate from the Earth formed millions of years ago. In contrast, lab-grown diamonds, identical in appearance, come from laboratory-created rough diamonds.

The cost between natural and lab-grown 2-carat diamonds can be staggering. As a rule of thumb, expect to pay under half the price compared to the equivalent pair of genuine diamond earrings.

Frequently asked questions

What is the average cost of a 2-carat diamond? Natural: A 2-carat natural diamond typically costs between £ 8,000 and £50,000, depending on the cut, clarity, colour, and shape.

Lab-Grown: A lab-grown 2-carat diamond generally costs 30-50% less than its natural counterpart, ranging from £3,000 to £20,000. How does the cut of a 2-carat diamond affect its appearance? The cut significantly influences a diamond’s brilliance and overall appearance. If well-cut, both natural and lab-grown diamonds can achieve exceptional sparkle. The precision of the cut is crucial in maximizing the diamond’s light performance, making it appear more brilliant and sometimes even larger. What are the most popular shapes for 2-carat diamonds? Popular shapes for 2-carat diamonds include round, princess, oval, and cushion. These shapes enhance the diamond’s brilliance and size. Both natural and lab-grown diamonds can be found in these shapes, and the choice depends on personal preference. How should I care for and maintain a 2-carat diamond ring? Regular cleaning with mild soap and water, avoiding harsh chemicals, and professional inspections are key to maintaining a 2-carat diamond’s brilliance. This applies equally to both natural and lab-grown diamonds. Proper care ensures the diamond remains free from scratches and retains its sparkle. What certifications should I look for when buying a 2-carat diamond? Certifications from reputable organisations like GIA (Gemological Institute of America) or IGI (International Gemological Institute) are essential for natural and lab-grown diamonds. These certifications verify the diamond’s authenticity and quality, detailing the cut, clarity, colour, and carat weight.
