A strong earthquake struck Central California on Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The agency reported that the quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 5.8, was centered near Lone Pine, Calif., southeast of Fresno, between Sequoia National Park and Death Valley National Park.

It was not immediately clear if there were any injuries or damage associated with the quake, which struck as the state was grappling with an increase in coronavirus cases.
