How To Find (& Catch) The Gigas Giant Clam In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Alongside fishing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players also have the option of diving to catch Deep Sea Creatures which include the very rare Gigas Giant Clam. Huge, fast, and worth a whopping 15,000 bells each, players will want to find and capture the Gigas Giant Clam as often as possible.
To find the Gigas Giant Clam, you will first need to purchase a wet suit and then swim into the ocean to start diving, keeping an eye out for large shadows specifically. Like other fast sea creatures, the technique for catching it may take a player some time (and a few lost clams) to perfect.

Look For Large Shadows While Diving During The Summer
Close
Like fish and other sea creatures in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players have a better chance to find the Gigas Giant Clam during certain times of the year. Players in the Northern Hemisphere will be able to find it from May through September, while players in the Southern Hemisphere will find it from November through March. Note that it does not have any specific time of day associated with it, so feel free to search the sea during both morning and night for a chance at finding it.
When diving, players will start to recognize it by its huge shadow and long lunges when it moves. It is the largest of the deep-sea creatures, making it somewhat easier to spot than the others. However, it can sometimes be mistaken for other creatures with large shadows and quick movements, such as the Snow Crab. When you think you've spotted it, you will want to pursue it as quickly as possible so you don't lose it.

While following it, many players will initially make the mistake of diving to try to catch a fast creature in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, when this will likely end up causing you the most trouble. Instead, you will want to approach a fast sea creature slowly, the same way they would approach a skittish bug on land. To do this, move using only the analog stick, and do not press any other buttons. If you do this correctly, the sea creature should not attempt to run from you.
Get as close to the bubbles as possible before pressing Y to dive close to the huge shadow. This will prevent it from swimming away and limit the need for you to chase after it. It may still run a little, but should be much easier to catch up with. You will know you've secured it when you see a small scuffle and your character rises holding a creature. When you resurface, you should have caught the Gigas Giant Clam, if that is what the creature was.
There is no 100% foolproof way to ensure what you're chasing is indeed the Gigas Giant Clam. Instead, you will have to use the clues provided here and hope for the best. As this is a very rare sea creature, it may take several tries to find it.
Once you have secured your first Gigas Giant Clam, be sure to take it to the Museum and donate it so you can work towards completing your collection of Sea Creatures in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. After that, for the players who enjoy hunting down these rare specimens, any subsequent Gigas Giant Clams should be taken to the Nook's Cranny shop where they can be sold to Timmy and Tommy for 15,000 Bells each. You also have the option of keeping one and displaying it, if you should choose to do so.
