Woman loses 100LBS by following a 'lazy keto' diet
A woman has revealed how she lost more than 100 pounds in just one year following a 'lazy keto' — her own simplified version of the popular high-fat, low-carb diet.
Megan Faraday, 25, from Ontario, Canada, told Good Morning America that she had been feeling 'really uncomfortable' with herself for a long time when she woke up one morning and decided to 'try keto to see if it sticks.'
But instead of going all in and counting every macronutrient she ate, she focused solely on the amount of carbohydrates she was consuming, which helped her ditch the fast food, bread, potatoes, and pasta she used to eat.
Before and after: Megan Faraday, 25, from Ontario, Canada, lost 100 pounds in one year
Transformation: Mega was feeling 'really uncomfortable' with herself when she woke up one day and decided to try the high-fat, low-carb keto diet
'It's keto without all of the hardcore rules,' she said of her 'lazy keto' plan. 'I figured out how to calculate net carbs [the total grams of carbohydrates in a food minus the grams of fiber] and just went from there.'
Focusing on her carb intake helped her overhaul her diet so that she was eating more fresh vegetables and lean proteins. In just one month, she dropped 15 pounds, and the weight loss was a motivator for her to keep going.
Megan was able to stick to her approach because she didn't feel deprived. She was able to eat a lot of things she normally would with just a few tweaks.
Speaking to Women's Health, Megan detailed her typical daily diet, explaining that she didn't cut back on any meals, and even allowed herself to indulge in dessert - but used the traditional keto diet rules to guide her when it came to her food choices.
For breakfast, she eats a hearty meal, like chocolate chip baked oats with peanut butter and banana, and then for lunch, she will eat a healthy but filling dish, like a turkey bacon wrap on a low-carb tortilla.
The budding weight loss influencer also allowed herself to enjoy snacks during the day, opting for healthy treats including protein bars, no-added-sugar yogurt, or fruit salad.

Finally for dinner, she eats a low-carb, high-protein meal like chicken fajita casserole, and then treats herself to dessert in the form of a low-calorie Halo-Top ice cream bar.
'It's a lot of things you would be eating otherwise, just minus the carbs. Things like chicken wings that you wouldn't normally think of as diet foods,' she told GMA of her diet.
'And it's easy to make regular recipes that I would have been eating before more keto-friendly.'
Speaking about other changes she has made to her lifestyle, Meghan explained to Women's Health that one of the biggest alterations was removing the pressure to drop the number on the scale every week.
'The first few times I saw the scale at a stand still or even spike up, I panicked,' she explained. 'But that is all part of the process! Continue on and stay dedicated to your plan, and it will move.'
She also made a concerted effort to drink more water, revealing that she now makes sure she consumes at least 100 ounces a day, adding that - on the days when she doesn't, she 'can really feel a negative difference'.
