Police charge 22-year-old man with manslaughter after pensioner, 72, was hit by cyclist

A man has been charged over the death of a pensioner who was knocked over and killed by a cyclist in east London.

Peter McCombie, 72, was struck by a biker in Bow Road, Tower Hamlets, on July 3 and taken to hospital in critical condition.

He died eight days later with serious head injuries.

Police now say they have charged Ermir Loka, 22, of Waltham Forest, with manslaughter and causing bodily harm by wanton and furious driving.

He will appear before Thames Magistrates' Court later today.

Mr McCombie was struck in Bow Road, close to Thames Magistrates' Court, at about 5.05pm on Friday July 3

Mr McCombie's sister, Christine, said: 'It is hard to put into words the effect losing Peter has had on our family.'

Detective Inspector Julie Trodden said of the victim: 'Peter was an active man who had continued to work beyond retirement age.

'As a result of this collision, his family, friends and colleagues are now mourning his loss.'
