Biden’s ‘most cops are good’ comment rankles some progressives.
During their convention, Democrats have presented a unified front on racial justice, declaring that the status quo is not acceptable.
But beneath the surface lies broad disagreement over policing, with the reform-oriented proposals of Joseph R. Biden Jr. falling well short of progressive activists’ demands.
The gap was evident in a line Mr. Biden delivered during a discussion on the convention’s opening night: “Most cops are good, but the fact is, the bad ones need to be identified and prosecuted.”
His words struck many activists as discordant at a moment when the police killing of George Floyd has spurred nationwide calls for rethinking law enforcement.
