Hundreds of thousands of GCSE pupils share memes as they await fate

Hundreds of thousands of GCSE pupils nervously shared memes this morning as some were unable to sleep as they awaited their fate in their exam results.

Teenagers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will get their final results today, the higher of either their teachers' estimated grade or the moderated grade.

It comes after exams were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic and Btec pupils were told they will have to wait for their grades amid last-minute changes.

Btec grades were not included in the original U-turn, but last night - with just hours to go - Pearson said it would regrade Btecs to 'address concerns about unfairness'.

Today, one student nervous about GCSE results day tweeted: 'I'm up at 6am and I bet you I'll get there and just fail every subject cause my teachers hate me.'

Another tweeted: 'Good luck for everyone collecting GCSE results. Also let's hope we don't get shafted in by our teachers and government.'

A third said they would 'try get an hour of sleep if possible' and a fourth added: 'Am I singing the periodic table song to keep myself awake? You may never know.'

It is still unclear what the appeals process will be for GCSE and A-level students who are unhappy with their results following the U-turn.

But England's exams regulator Ofqual previously said individual pupils would not be allowed to challenge teacher-assessed grades.
