3 Shot at Large L.A. Mansion Party Near Beverly Hills

What began as a party that drew a large group of people to a mansion on the famed Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles devolved into chaos and gunfire in the early hours of Tuesday morning, leaving at least three people wounded.

Large gatherings in private homes are banned under Los Angeles County’s public health orders because of the coronavirus pandemic, but there have been a number of reports of parties, and the developments raised broader questions about the ability of the police to enforce social-distancing measures.

Helicopter footage of partygoers gathering at the hillside home in the Beverly Crest neighborhood was broadcast on local news outlets throughout the day, and a number of police vehicles could be seen parked at the gate outside the property. There were no signs that the authorities had entered it before the shooting, however.

A video posted to Instagram by one partygoer showed a number of expensive cars crowding the driveway and a group gathered inside the hillside home before a series of gunshots are heard on two separate occasions. Police sirens are later heard and a voice yells, “L.A.P.D.” At least one wounded man can be seen lying on the ground as those around him call for help.
