What Happened Over The Summer Before All American Season 3?

The Las Vegas Trip Caused Strife Between Olivia & Spencer

The separation between Olivia and Spencer happened only a short while before season 3 began. All American season 3's first episode repeatedly teases a trip to Las Vegas. Several of the characters went to Las Vegas to see Coop perform on the tour Layla put together, and this was two weeks before the season 3 premiere, which is right around the time that Olivia and Spencer stopped speaking to each other. Olivia told Layla she couldn't go to Las Vegas because she had to help a Sober Sister, but All American season 3 eventually confirms this isn't true.

However, Olivia lies about not going to Las Vegas because it was a secret visit to see Spencer. Olivia and Spencer didn't hook up as most viewers initially suspected. Spencer told Olivia he had feelings for her, which she didn't know how to deal with. She couldn't immediately reciprocate those feelings because she was still dating Asher then. Olivia left Las Vegas for a surprise trip to see Asher, which didn't go well. Olivia effectively rejecting Spencer's feelings took her down a darker path as she thought Asher cheated on her while in Mexico.

The All American season 3 premiere led many to believe Spencer hooked up with Olivia

The romantic feelings between Spencer and Olivia are something All American teased in the past, especially with the hot tub scene in season 2. And since season 2 ended with them together during potential crises, it isn't surprising those feelings would grow. However, the All American season 3 premiere led many to believe Spencer hooked up with Olivia, but it was with Layla. Spencer quickly moving from Olivia to Layla wasn't the best for anyone, as his suppressed feelings for Olivia eventually led to him and Layla breaking up.

The Couple Finally Finds A Way To Make Things Work

Close

This was ultimately just a bump in the road for Olivia and Spencer on All American. The two characters just had to figure out their issues and come together, and that has worked out for them because they are engaged to be married. This is perfect since the two were always close friends who confided in each other and helped when the other needed it. The season 3 premiere made it look like that had ended, but luckily, it was only another step in their relationship-building process.

Things have not been smooth sailing between them, though. The All American season 6 premiere featured another stumbling block for the couple, as Olivia had spent a year away in London, and when she returned, they had changed. This is almost the same as the struggles in season 3, as things that happened between seasons came back to tear them apart. However, actress Samantha Logan says fans will see "their relationship really transform into something we haven’t seen before in a really beautiful way."
