Grounded: How To Get (& Use) Tough Gunk
Tough Gunk is an essential common Resource in Grounded used for crafting various Tier-3 Tools, Gear, Consumables, and Utilities. Such items include the Mint Mace, EverChar Torch, and the powerful Spicy Coaltana.
Ranged Staffs in the game also require Tough Gunk, so it becomes essential for many bigger battles later on. If you're looking to upgrade your offensive equipment in Grounded, knowing where to find and farm Tough Gunk is essential.

Locating Tough Gunk Around Grounded
To get Tough Gunk in Grounded, you must slay high-level insects that inhabit the biomes of the Upper Yard. The Black Ox Beetle, Green Shield Bug, and Ladybird Larva are just a few of the many creatures that will drop Tough Gunk upon death. Facing these creatures is a challenge, as a single encounter with these elite foes can feel like a miniboss fight.
Once you've reached the endgame will be able to dispose of Upper Yard bugs with only a few swings. However, those who are still using Tier-1 or Tier-2 weaponry may have a difficult time obtaining the crafting material from these enemies.
Reddit user Dark_master_craven has suggested in a r/GroundedGame Reddit post that the Roly Poly is the best source of Tough Gunk in Grounded. These Upper Yard insects are small but dangerous, and they are highly resilient to multiple types of damage and elemental attacks. However, if you smash these insects with Busting damage, they can be quickly defeated. Even a Tier-2 Hammer can be effective against this enemy.
Alternatively, instead of hunting down specific creatures, just exploring the Upper Yard and killing everything that moves could prove fruitful. While this method is more profitable for farming Tough Gunk in Grounded, it is also more dangerous.
Before jumping into an Upper Area fight-fest, focus on crafting one weapon and use that to get a little Tough Gunk from a specific type of insect. For example, if you make Grounded's Mint Mace first, you should focus on hunting down Ladybirds and Ladybird Larvae. Once you accumulate enough Tough Gunk to make the Salt Morning Star, you can start slaying Black Ox Beetles, Termites, and whatever else inhabits these lands with ease.
Eventually, adventurers will have a weapon type to deal with the weakness of every foe in the Upper Yard, enabling them to farm Tough Gunk with much better efficiency than before. Naturally, such a process will take time. However, the payout of being able to craft the best weapons and armor in Grounded is undoubtedly a worthwhile reward.
