Filming Starts & Several Names Are Added To Season 2's Cast

As the sophomore season continues to take shape after months of waiting, the latest news sees Wednesday season 2 add and subtract from its cast. First, Xavier Thorpe star Percy Hynes White has been dropped from the cast due to his sexual assault allegations, and Naomi J. Ogawa who played Yoko Tanaka will also not return. Sheriff Donovan Galpin actor Jamie McShane has also been demoted from a series regular to a recurring role in season 2.

Despite losing a few cast members, season 2 is also gaining quite a few others. Along with the announcement that season 2's production is getting underway, it has been revealed that Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Billie Piper are all joining. Likewise, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor, Frances O’Connor, and Joonas Suotamo will appear. The massive roster of new stars join Steve Buscemi and Thandiwe Newton who were previously added to the cast in early 2024.

Naturally, because Wednesday was such a smashing success for Netflix in its first season, the streamer wasted no time in announcing a second. However, the January 2023 reveal of Wednesday season 2 came before the eventual Hollywood strikes, putting many productions on hold for the better part of the year. With the strikes out of the way, the show went into production in early May 2024 and is expected to make its release window.

Wednesday season 1’s main cast will likely return for season 2, including the familiar faces that helped make it so popular in the first place. Naturally, Jenna Ortega will return as Wednesday and Netflix has all but confirmed that fact by renewing the show for more episodes. Since they are expected to play a much larger role in season 2, the rest of the Addams Family is also likely to reprise their roles, including an undisclosed addition to the clan which fans haven't met yet. With Netflix's recent casting video, that new addition is confirmed to be Grandma Addams played by Joanna Lumley.

The first new addition to the cast is Steve Buscemi, who will play the role of Barry Dort. Speculation abounds that he might be brought in as the replacement for the late Principle Weems, but nothing has been confirmed. Additionally, Thandiwe Newton has joined Wednesday season 2 as Dr. Fairburn. Billie Piper has been cast as Capri, and she'll be joined by fellow newcomers Christopher Lloyd, Haley Joel Osment, and Heather Matarazzo who have been cast in undisclosed roles.
