Elden Ring: How To Solve The Puzzle Of Ordina, Liturgical Town

After using the Haligtree Secret Medallion to access the Consecrated Snowfield in Elden Ring, Tarnished must travel to Ordina, Liturgical Town , in the far north and solve a puzzle to enter Miquella's Haligtree. However, to progress to Miquella's Haligtree Portal, travelers must break the arcane seal by entering the Evergaol to open the blocked Sending Gate entryway.

To enter the Evergaol of the Liturgical Town of Ordina, walk down the staircase from Miquella's Haligtree Portal and go to the right. An Imp Pedastal will be near the entrance to the pocket dimension. Interacting with it will display a message saying "Light the four figures in the Evergaol." This gives you the biggest clue you'll need to solve this area's puzzle as you start navigating around the hamlet.

The clue given at the Evergaol is similar to the instructions given to dispel the barrier in Sellia, Town of Sorcery. These types of puzzles exist throughout The Lands Between, including the Siofra River flame pillars in Elden Ring seen earlier in the game.

How To Travel Around The Evergaol Of Ordina, Liturgical Town

Have The Right Weapons To Deal With Dangerous Enemies

At first, Ordina seems like a ghost town devoid of any real enemies you have to fight to solve the Town's puzzle. Don't be fooled by this false serenity, as there are three major enemies in the Evergaol you have to prepare for to investigate the settlement's secrets. Entering the dark dimension of the Evergaol immediately paints a target on your Tarnished's back, so be mindful of different threats as you explore.

One of the most dangerous foes in this space is an invisible Black Knife Assassin in Elden Ring who stalks the area. This enemy can kill you quickly with fast attacks using their signature Black Knife , which deals enormous damage to your character. Thankfully, this opponent will only scour the grounds of the Evergaol, meaning you can avoid it or run past it when you get an opportunity to move.

There are two more enemies along the rooftops of the Evergaol, with both guarding three of the four candles you need to interact with to solve the Liturgical Town's puzzle. These archers have high HP and can deal stagger damage that will two or three-shot Tarnished if they aren't careful. Avoid the projectiles from these enemies as best you can and kill them fast to clear most of the area, which should make it easier to travel around.

How To Solve The Ordina Liturgical Town Puzzle In Elden Ring

Light Four Candles To Open A Path

To solve the puzzle of Ordina, Liturgical Town, you must light four candles held by statues in the Evergaol. The first can be found south of the Evergaol's Belfries portal in Elden Ring that leads to Miquella's Haligtree. To reach it, run forward and jump over the railing and onto the ledge on the left. Drop into the stairwell and leap over another fence to climb a ladder beside a blue torch. From here, you can ascend the ladder to light the first candle.

Look across from this spot to see the next candle tower in the northeast. However, when you traverse the rooftops, one of the area's archers will begin firing burst projectiles at you from afar. Take cover and only approach when the enemy is preparing their next arrow. Once you eliminate this enemy, ascend the tower to light the second flame and get closer to the puzzle's solution.

Don't be afraid to go back and rest at a Site of Grace to recover your character's health or use a Flask of Crimson Tears to regain some HP during this process. The candles you light up will stay lit even if you rest at a Grace Site.

The third candle is on the western side of Ordina, atop a tower with a ladder behind the building. Another rooftop archer will be guarding the area nearby, along with the invisible Elden Ring enemy mentioned earlier. Try to find a stealthy route to light the third candle and avoid the archer and Black Knife Assassin (Ordina, Liturgical Town) as much as possible, either by sprinting at the right time or using an item to make your character's footsteps softer.

The fourth candle is in front of the town's entrance on the right. Lighting this flame will be the most dangerous due to the presence of the aforementioned Black Knife assassin. Rush down and light the candle to be teleported back into the real world. Once all the candles have been lit, the seal for Miquella's Haligtree Portal will be broken, allowing you access to a brand-new area in the game.

What The Haligtree Seal Does

Travel To An Optional Area With The Game's Toughest Boss

The Haligtree Seal, once broken, unlocks the path to the Miquella's Haligtree optional area in Elden Ring. This place is massive, acting as a region you have to descend from the treetops into the inner sanctum of a city nestled along the branches of the tree itself. This region was created by Miquella to rival the Erdtree and is rumored to be where you can find his notorious sister and Blade, Malenia.

You have to be prepared to challenge this location since it contains high-level enemies and perhaps the hardest boss in the game, though that title has been challenged in the recent Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC through its final boss. There is plenty of loot to discover and other minor bosses to face as you descend to the Haligtree's roots. Make sure to bring protection against Scarlet Rot, as many enemies here inflict that status effect.

Some NPC questlines can be concluded in Miquella's Haligtree when you break the seal safeguarding the portal to the area as well. Anyone who solves the Ordina, Liturgical Town puzzle in Elden Ring might get a chance to see the tragic or hopeful endings of some of their favorite NPCs, but only if they have cared enough to progress their stories outside of the Haligtree first.
