Season 3’s plot line about meeting their doppelgangers, the Sparrow Academy, and attempting to save the universe from the Kugelblitz set the stage for The Umbrella Academy season 4. While they weren’t able to stop the Kugelblitz from destroying the universe and the timeline, the heroes were able to get to Oblivion. With anticipation high for the final season of the off-beat comic book show, the latest news sees the release of a trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 4. Picking up right where the previous season left off, the trailer opens with the Hargreeves siblings in the alternate timeline and without their powers. However, they reunite and set about on another mission, despite their usual bickering. The trailer also shows some of the siblings using their powers, suggesting they may get their abilities back at some point in season 4.

After the third season concluded in 2022, Netflix was rather quiet about the details of The Umbrella Academy season 4, though the series was quickly renewed. Then, the streamer provided a 2024 release window in late 2023, and now Netflix has confirmed that The Umbrella Academy's fourth and final season will debut on August 8th, 2024.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 debuted all 10 episodes on June 22, 2022.

Several new cast members have been confirmed for The Umbrella Academy season 4. It was announced in February 2023 that Nick Offerman (The Last of Us), Megan Mullally (Will & Grace), and David Cross (Arrested Development) will all be joining the show (via Variety). Cross will play Sly Grossman, a business owner and family man. Offerman and Mullally will be portraying Dr. Gene and Dr. Jean Thibedeau, a married couple who are more aware than most of the disruption to the timeline.

Along with the announcement that the series was renewed in late 2022, it was also revealed that The Umbrella Academy season 4 will be the last. The official Twitter page for the show broke the news, and it wasn't particularly shocking considering the brevity of its source material. Despite being only three seasons long, The Umbrella Academy has outpaced its comic book predecessor and is moving into uncharted territory.

How Does The Journey End For The Hargreeves?

While The Umbrella Academy TV series has never held itself too closely to its comic book source material, the graphic novels have tended to provide a hint about what the next season of the show might explore. However, the plot of The Umbrella Academy season 4 is one of the most mysterious to date, since the story will be in completely new territory uncovered by the graphic novels.

The Umbrella Academy season 1 adapted the first storyline, “The Apocalypse Suite,” season 2 adapted “Dallas,” and season 3 took some elements from the third storyline “Hotel Oblivion.” However, the fourth storyline has not yet been published, and as it is set to be called “The Sparrow Academy,” it is reasonable to think that season 3 already drew on that material while working with Gerard Way.

This leaves The Umbrella Academy season 4’s story in unexplored territory. The Umbrella Academy season 4 will be working on fresh material and is likely to deal with the siblings needing to reacquire their powers, facing new doppelgängers (as hinted with the appearance of Ben in the post-credits scene), and living in a world run by Reginald Hargreeves.

After years of delays and waiting, a full trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 4 has been released and it teases an epic conclusion to the beloved comic book series. Opening with narration from Reginald explaining the titular academy and his powerful children, the trailer then jumps to the Hargreeves clan as they live their lives in the alternate timeline. However, the siblings reunite to the tune of "The Final Countdown", and set out on one last adventure together. Most interestingly of all, the trailer ends with Viktor and Ben somehow using the powers they lost at the end of season 3.
