Every Taron Egerton Movie Ranked Worst To Best
Taron Egerton has appeared in many movies of varied quality during his impressive young career, and while he clearly has a long road ahead of him, he has already built an impressive filmography. The Welsh actor burst onto the big screen in 2014 with his breakout role in The Kingsman franchise and has remained a consistent Hollywood performer ever since. Already proven to be a versatile actor capable of starring in a variety of genres, this success has made him one of the most exciting actors of his generation.
Along with shows like Black Bird, the list of Egerton's movies to date showcases the exciting roles that have helped to put him on Hollywood's radar. He has tackled some iconic action hero roles, played famous real-life figures, appeared in animated projects, and much more. Egerton has starred with Oscar winners like Jamie Foxx and Colin Firth, but always found a way to stand out, even if the project itself is not exceptional.
12 Billionaire Boys Club (2018)
As Dean Karny
James Cox's Billionaire Boys Club is based on the real group of the same name. In the 1980s, a group of young men attempt to pull off their own get-rich-quick plan through a Ponzi Scheme. While they briefly get to enjoy the fruits of the illegal actions, things quickly spiral out of control, leading to the young men getting wrapped up in a murder plot as the reality of their crimes becomes impossible to ignore. Egerton plays Dean Karny, one of the "club" members and a lead figure in the crime story.
Egerton does a good job bringing a sinister quality to his character while still keeping him a grounded person. However, his performance is let down by the rest of the rather forgettable movie. While attempting to be a Martin Scorsese-like crime saga about the corruption of wealth and power, Billionaire Boys Club feels like a pale imitator. The movie was also a financial flop, largely because Kevin Spacey's involvement meant that few cinemas showed the film, and was critically panned, even winning a special Razzie Award.
11 Robin Hood (2018)
As Robin Hood
There have been so many Robin Hood movies over the years, with everyone from Errol Flynn to Kevin Costner to Russell Crowe taking on the legendary folk hero. While Taron Egerton was an exciting new actor to add to this list, he sadly is saddled with what is considered one of the worst Robin Hood movies. Otto Bathurst's ambitious retelling of the Robin Hood legend follows the outlaw's adventure in something of an origin story with the young outlaw being trained by Little John (Jamie Foxx) to take on the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Taron Egerton gives a solid showing as Robin Hood but is ultimately let down by the movie's blandness and predictability.
Despite its $100 million budget and talented cast, the 2018 Robin Hood disappoints because the story doesn't bring anything fresh to the classic tale other than modern special effects and action sequences. Taron Egerton gives a solid showing as Robin Hood but is ultimately let down by the movie's blandness and predictability.
10 Legend (2015)
As "Mad Teddy" Smith
Legend is a crime thriller that adapts John Pearson's biography The Profession of Violence: The Rise and Fall of the Kray Twins. Tom Hardy pulls double duty, playing both of the legendary mobster twins in the story of their incredible rise to power and fame as influential figures in the London underworld while torn apart due to their feuding and explosive tempers. Taron Egerton has a supporting role in the movie as "Mad Teddy" Smith, one of the Kray twins' henchmen who was rumored to have had a sexual relationship with Ronnie, as is depicted in Legend.
The real reason to watch Legend is the amazing performance by Hardy. He completely disappears into the two roles, making the audience forget entirely that this is one actor in both roles. However, beyond the lead performance, Legend doesn't have a lot to offer the gangster movie genre. It is fairly standard with nothing wrong with it, but very little that helps it to stand out.
9 Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
As Gary "Eggsy" Unwin
Taron Egerton reprised his breakout role, working again with writer-director Matthew Vaughn, Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The Kingsman sequel sees the return of Eggsy (Egerton) as he deals with the Kingsman organization being wiped out by a powerful new enemy. Looking for revenge and to take down the sinister drug kingpin (Julianne Moore), Egerton is forced to join forces with the Kingsman's American counterpart, Statesman, while also revealing that his old mentor, Harry, is alive.
The Golden Circle continues the Kingsman franchise's high-octane action as it toes the line between homage to and parody of the spy genre. However, the movie can never quite land on the right tone, with Moore and a cameo from Elton John embracing the wackiness of this world, while Egerton's performance and some of the subject matter suggest a more serious approach. It makes for a fun but uneven adventure.
8 Sing (2016)
As Johnny
There have been a few occasions in which Targon Egerton has shown off his singing abilities, with the Sing movies being an early indicator. Written and directed by Garth Jennings, Sing is an animated comedy about Buster Moon, an anthropomorphic koala who holds a singing competition to prevent his theater from closing. Taron Egerton voices Johnny, a teenage gorilla who loves to sing but is worried about what his macho mobster dad would think.
Related Sing 3: Confirmation, Cast, Story & Everything We Know Sing 2 was the 3rd highest-streamed movie in the U.S. in 2022, achieving over 80 million streams on Netflix, and now Sing 3 is in development.
While it may be low on substance, Sing is an undeniably entertaining and uplifting watch that is full of hits performed by its ensemble cast, including Matthew McConaughey and Scarlett Johansson. Johnny's relationship with his father brings emotional weight to Sing, and Egerton's rendition of "I'm Still Standing" gave a glimpse of what was to come with his future role as Elton John in Rocketman.
7 Sing 2 (2021)
As Johnny
The mixture of cute animals, a star-studded voice cast, and pop songs helped to make Sing a massive success, so it is not too surprising that it was quickly followed up by a sequel. Sing 2 sees Buster Moon's group of performers attempt to put on a spectacular space-themed musical in Redshore City, the Las Vegas of the Sing universe. However, the success of their show requires them to convince a reclusive rock star to return to the stage.
Sing 2 follows a similar formula as the original movie, and once again it delivers a charming, fun story with hilarious moments and stunning visuals. Egerton's Johnny faces a crisis of confidence during Sing 2 as he struggles with the show's choreography, but the ongoing tension between him and his dance instructor, Adam Buxton's Klaus Kickenklober, builds to the movie's best musical sequence.
6 Tetris (2023)
As Henk Rogers
From BlackBerry to Air, there have been a lot of movies made recently that explore the origins behind companies' biggest products becoming a reality. Taron Egerton stepped into this trending subgenre with the tale of one of the biggest and most influential video games of all time. Tetris stars Egerton as Henk Rogers, a man who became obsessed with building a new video game, but has to overcome a lot of obstacles, making deals between the US, Japan, and Russia.
However, as much as the story is compelling, Egerton is the real standout with his performance...
The movie is a fun and compelling look at a piece of pop culture history that is a lot more complicated than people might have originally thought. However, as much as the story is compelling, Egerton is the real standout with his performance as he combines his funny charisma and his ability to play a reserved and likable everyman with a lot of ambition.
5 Carry-On (2024)
As Ethan Kopek
Taron Egerton's latest movie immediately cements itself as one of his most entertaining. The Netflix original thriller Carry-On stars Egerton as Ethan, a TSA agent working at an airport during the incredibly busy traveling day of Christmas. The hectic day is interrupted when Ethan is contacted by a mysterious stranger who tells him to allow a certain bag to go through security unchecked or else someone Ethan loves will be killed.
The movie is a pulse-pounding, smart, and captivating ride that mixes thrills and a Christmas spirit in the vein of Die Hard. Jason Bateman has a standout role as the film's villain, but Egerton is required to carry a lot of the movie with his grounded hero performance. He excels at playing an ordinary guy thrust into an extraordinary situation, making the audience cheer for him all the way through.
4 Eddie The Eagle (2015)
As Eddie Edwards
Following his breakout role in The Kingsman, Taron Egerton showed everyone that he was an actor with incredible versatility in Eddie the Eagle. This sports movie based on a true story sees Egerton as Eddie Edwards, a British athlete, who in 1988 became Great Britain's first Olympic ski jumper in six decades. While Eddie's ambition and optimism are high, his talent is questionable. Yet with the help of his dedicated coach, Bronson Peary (Hugh Jackman), he seeks to show the world what he can do.
Eddie The Eagle is a classic underdog sports story and, although it reuses typical clichés of the genre, it's a sweet and heart-warming movie that can be enjoyed by viewers of all ages. Egerton is completely endearing as the positive man who ignores that he is a laughingstock to some and is ready to prove everyone wrong.
3 Testament Of Youth (2014)
As Edward Brittain
Taron Egerton made his feature film debut in this stirring tale of World War I from a unique perspective. Testament of Youth adapts Vera Brittain's memoir of the same name, recalling her experience during World War I when she postponed her studies to serve as a nurse while her brother, her love interest, and her admirer all went to war. Egerton plays Edward, Vera's younger brother, who bravely joins the army while also harboring a secret he eventually confides in his sister.
The brutally honest account of war shows the pain loved ones back home went through when these young men fought on the battlefields. Alicia Vikander's lead role as Vera was the standout for many critics, but Egerton impressed many as well, earning a nomination at the London Film Festival for Best British Newcomer.
2 Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)
As Gary "Eggsy" Unwin
Based on the comic by Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar, Kingsman: The Secret Service is a high-octane spy movie that pays homage to the older entries in the genre while also bringing its own unique style. The Secret Service follows Eggsy, played by Taron Egerton, an unlikely new Kingsman recruit who is thrown on a mission to save the world from a billionaire megalomaniac who intends to solve the Earth's environmental problems by killing most of its human population.
The Secret Service offers a genuine alternative to other popular spy movies in part thanks to its wild action, including Harry Hart's (Colin Firth) murderous church rampage. However, Egerton is the real star of the show, making for a terrific audience surrogate as he is introduced to this complex spy world. Egerton is able to show incredible versatility in the role, playing the down-to-earth and rebellious youth of Eggsy as well as the suave spy aspects that come later. The movie was a box office success and kick started Egerton's career as a leading man.
1 Rocketman (2019)
As Elton John
Taron Egerton took on his most challenging role in Rocketman and proved to everyone that he was more than up for the task. The movie is a wild and fun musical biopic of Elton John with Egerton stepping into the role of the iconic singer, following through his journey to success, an exploration of his sexuality, and an honest look at the darker moments in his life.
The film avoids being the typical biopic by using John's songs to create musical sequences that blend reality and fantasy. Commendably, Egerton sings Elton John's songs in Rocketman himself, rather than lip-syncing, and masterfully captures the iconic musician's flamboyant style. It is a charismatic performance that also goes to some heavy places throughout the story, earning Taron Egerton a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
