Why The Challenge Alum Sarah Rice Won't Return For All Stars 4

Why The Challenge Alum Sarah Rice Won't Return For All Stars 4

Summary Sarah Rice had a total of nine years competing on The Challenge.

Sarah said she was invited back for All Stars 4, but production couldn't meet her needs of including Susie Meister as her partner and providing mental health services.

Sarah is currently a dedicated therapist and could also not take time away from her patients to compete.

Despite competing on multiple seasons of The Challenge in the past, Sarah Rice will not be returning to compete in the currently-airing season of The Challenge: All Stars 4. Sarah has made a name for herself as a Challenge legend after nine total seasons of competing. With a total of five finals run, and two overall wins, Sarah's consistently impressive performances have made her a fan favorite. She is well known for winning The Challenge: Rivals III and having her prize money stolen by her partner, Johnny Bananas, leaving her with zero prize winnings despite earning the champion title.

The Challenge has had three All-Stars seasons thus far, all of which heavily featured casts of early Challengers from the show's early 2000s seasons. Fans look forward to All-Stars seasons because many feel that modern seasons of The Challenge don't match up in quality. Newer casts feature many recruits from shows like Big Brother or Love Island, rather than the original tradition of only featuring competitors from The Real World and Road Rules. Sarah is considered an original Challenger due to her early involvement in the show and origin on The Real World: Brooklyn.

Sarah Rice Claims The Challenge Couldn't Meet Her One Condition

Sarah Was Initially Open To Returning

Despite speculation, Sarah confirmed via TikTok that she will not be returning for All Stars 4 due to production interference.

The text in the video reads, "I finally say YES to the All Star Challenge availability call--under the condition Susie can join...They say, 'you know we can't tell you who's been cast or who is confirmed!' Well, now I guess I'm never going."

Sarah is referring to Susie Meister, another Challenge alum who was rumored to return previously. Sarah and Susie have a cohosted podcast together, Brain Candy Podcast, and it's possible that Sarah wanted to pair with Susie to draw more publicity to their show and gain more listeners. Without Susie by her side on The Challenge, her show wouldn't get as much clout.

Sarah uses her TikTok to keep fans updated on her potential return to The Challenge after her 10-season hiatus. She always stays transparent with fans about her involvement in the show. Sarah still touches on the topic of reality TV in her TikTok videos, so she doesn't seem soured toward the whole genre. Since reality TV is where Sarah got her fame, it's possible she might consider rejoining in the future since it took her so far in her younger years and there are enough fans who want her back.

Sarah Won't Join The Challenge All Stars 4 Without Susie

Sarah Has A Hard Line Condition

In her video, Sarah says that bringing Susie along for All Stars 4 was her "only condition" and that it could not be met by production. It's clear that Susie potentially not returning to the show is the motivating factor behind Sarah not joining the cast. Many fans have expressed frustration online over the production team's inability to reach out to older Challengers and persuade them to rejoin the show. Though some Challenge alum, like Coral Smith, are likely returning, Sarah's comments on TikTok imply that she felt production was complicating the matter of her return.

In an older TikTok, Sarah also spoke openly about why she hasn't been considering a return to The Challenge. After fans consistently asked about her retirement, Sarah cited her career and mental health as two major factors behind her decision to stay away from reality TV.

Speaking candidly, Sarah said, "In that whole experience, I also saw some of the darker sides to reality television, especially what it can do to people's mental health."

As a certified therapist herself, Sarah is dedicated to addressing mental health concerns and said she would like to reach out to others who struggled due to their time on reality TV. Other Challengers like Lauren Coogan have left the show due to mental health struggles.

Sarah was pushing for The Challenge production to offer mental health services to the participants post-season.

In her TikTok video letting fans know she would not return to The Challenge, she also touched on another significant reason she won't return. Sarah chose to be a therapist in her career path and she got her Masters in Therapy last year. At the time of The Challenge All Stars casting, Sarah was in a private practice with a full client load. She remarked that she was dedicated to her clients "and there for them every week, dedicated to the work I do."

Sarah has also had a string of bad luck on The Challenge between being forced off when she was partnered with Trishelle Cannatella in The Challenge: Rivals II, and Trishelle had to leave. Moreover, the sting of being two-timed by Johnny Bananas has probably lasted and caused residual animosity between Sarah and the competition show. So while Sarah may have been a smart and dedicated player, her participation over the years didn't work out well. In any case, Sarah still has a following and would have been a great alum to return.

While fans would have loved to see Sarah Rice return to The Challenge after eight years in retirement, her reasons for not competing are understandable. Interference from production may keep other alums from rejoining the All-Stars season, much to the disappointment of longtime viewers. Risks to the mental health of each player are also serious issues that should be openly discussed the way Sarah has. Until a potential return to The Challenge, fans can keep up with Sarah on social media.
