Plot details tease more monsters from Norway's folklore, but an exact story remains elusive.
After the first movie was a tremendous hit on Netflix, the streamer is set to deliver Troll 2 soon, and there's a ton of exciting details revealed about the new sequel. The first movie in Roar Uthaug’s Troll franchise was released in December 2022 and quickly became the platform's most-viewed non-English film of all time (via Variety). While the ending of Troll left the door open for a sequel, there was little word about Troll 2 for almost a year - until Netflix finally confirmed the sequel was going ahead.
Troll 2 will follow on from the first movie, which follows a group of paleontologists who come face-to-face with an ancient troll in Norway’s Dovre mountains. At the end of Troll, it is revealed that the beast finally felled by Nora (Ine Marie Willmann) and Kris (Mads Sjøgård Pettersen) was just the first of many, teasing sequels galore. With Tomb Raider and The Wave director Roar Uthaug at the helm, Troll 2 can not only match the quality of its predecessor but even surpass the excellent giant monster movie.

Close
There are no confirmed cast members for Troll 2, and the only names attached to the project are director Roar Uthaug alongside his creative team of writer Espen Aukan and producers Espen Horn and Kristian Strang. It’s possible that Ine Marie Willmann could reprise her role as Professor Nora Tidemann, since she and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen's Captain Kristoffer Holm survived the events of the first film. Because the ending teased more Nordic folk terror, Professor Willmann could become the de facto protagonist in the sequels. However, it's also possible that the movie will opt to use a new cast instead.
Troll 2 Story
A New Monster Awakens In The Dovre Mountains
Not much is known about the Troll 2 story, but a few plot details were teased along with the confirmation announcement. The sequel to Troll will focus on another Norwegian folklore figure, but it's unclear if this will also be a troll or something else entirely. The ending of Troll set up a lot of possibilities for the Troll 2 plot, and it’s clear there are more monsters inside the Dovre mountains. That being said, Troll 2 could focus on a different part of Norway, as the entire country has a rich history of local folklore.
Should any of the characters from the first movie return for Troll 2, this could also impact the plot. Kris and Nora discovered that trolls can be harmed by UV light, and managed to fashion a working trap. The dynamic could be quite different in Troll 2 if the story focuses on them again now that they’ve successfully taken down one of the mythical beasts. Whatever happens, it seems likely that Troll 2 will be another monster movie hit on Netflix.
