The Gilded Age Season 3: Confirmation & Everything We Know

Summary The Gilded Age season 3 has been officially confirmed after a successful second season.

The quickness of The Gilded Age's renewal is a sign of the show's continued success and popularity.

The finale of season 2 set the stage for an even more dramatic third season of The Gilded Age.

The Gilded Age season 3 is on the way, and the continuing popularity of the historical drama makes a surefire hit. Debuting on its original network of NBC in 2022, The Gilded Age is written and created by Julian Fellowes, known for the hit series Downton Abbey. With a cast that includes multiple theater veterans and classically trained actors The Gilded Age brings the nuance of Fellowes’s other shows to America’s industrial boom in the late 1800s — specifically to the New York industrialists and socialites that thrived (and fell) during this unique point in history.

The series has been a critical darling throughout its first two seasons, and The Gilded Age season 2 actually surpassed its predecessor with a Rotten Tomatoes score of over 90%. As historical dramas continue to rise in popularity thanks to shows like Bridgerton, The Gilded Age has a chance to become the next must-see drama that draws its inspiration from the annals of history. Season 3 gives HBO a chance to solidify the series as the next great period drama.

Though the show scored a quick renewal in late 2023, news was rather slow concerning the period piece until a filming window for The Gilded Age season 3 was revealed. Announced by Bertha actor Carrie Coon while discussing her other series, The White Lotus, it is now known that The Gilded Age will begin filming its next season in July 2023. Coon discussed how the two HBO shows won't clash in terms of scheduling, though she will certainly have a busy 2024.

Read Coon's comments below:

Fortunately, it actually lined up pretty perfectly. I think we’re going to go into production on The Gilded Age in July. And although White Lotus will continue shooting in July, I will probably wrap out by June, just so they can get me back for Gilded Age. The fact that both shows are on HBO definitely worked in my favor, because everyone’s incentivized to make sure everything works out. I’m very grateful to the people. It’s always the boots on the ground. It’s always, like, the first [assistant directors] and everybody working together on the schedule.

Ada Gains Wealth & Status In Season 3

In terms of shaking things up, the finale of The Gilded Age season 2 not only turned everything on its ear, but gave the writers a lot to work with for season 3. Perhaps the biggest change was the revelation that Ada has inherited a large sum of money that will not only save the Brook family but also give her power. The fallout between Gladys and Bertha is also likely to see the Russell clan fractured in The Gilded Age season 3, which could set the stage for even more fireworks in the future.
