Every Cobra Kai Couple, Ranked Worst To Best
Summary Relationships in Cobra Kai show character growth through breakups and reconciliations, highlighting personal development and maturity.
Romances drive character arcs, influencing choices and allegiances, blurring lines between heroes and villains in the series.
Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso's differing fighting styles impact both their own lives and the children they mentor in Cobra Kai.
Romance has been a key component in all five seasons of Cobra Kai. Part of how many of the characters have progressed over the course of the series, adult or teenager, has been through the relationships they've been in. While they haven't always worked out, there was always a point about why the two characters dated and what they learned both during and after the relationship.
While Cobra Kai explores the advantages and disadvantages of Johnny Lawrence's and Daniel LaRusso's fighting styles, it also portrays how their influences affect the children they teach. Throughout the show, multiple characters fluctuate from being a protagonist to an antagonist, showing how gray everything is. One of the best ways to show how a Cobra Kai character progresses is through the person they see romantically. While at times it ends in heartbreak, it gives characters a peak into their mindsets.

Related Why Cobra Kai Season 6 Took So Long To Make Cobra Kai season 6 premieres almost two years following the release of season 5 on Netflix, and many factors can be blamed for its elongated delay.
10 Kyler Park & Sam LaRusso
Season 1
Close
After being accepted into the in-crowd before season 1 began, Sam began dating Kyler. While Kyler initially appeared to be a nice guy (at least around her), it didn't take long for Sam to dump him when she realized how much of a bully he really was. That was further accentuated when Kyler spread a false rumor to spite Sam after she broke up with him.
This is Cobra Kai's least compelling relationship, but that's because it was never supposed to be as such. It was supposed to highlight that, despite Sam's newfound popularity, she still had standards regarding dating. The better part of this relationship is what happens after they break up.
Sam becomes invested in karate, following her father's teachings, and Kyler joins Cobra Kai. While he embraces bullying under Cobra Kai's teaching, he eventually becomes a much better person, and likely could have been a better boyfriend for Sam once he realized the error of his ways.
Related Is Cobra Kai season 6's three-part split a good idea for the final season? Netflix has recently made a habit of splitting their biggest shows up into multiple parts, with Cobra Kai season 6 proving the biggest yet with three parts, two releasing this year and the finale next year. With part 1 ending on a major cliffhanger, it does seem like the split was a good idea, though audiences are divided on the decision. Much of this division seems focused on the tournament not appearing until part 1's end, but given the show has been building to it for years, I think it was the right choice to keep that anticipation high.
9 Miguel Diaz & Tory Nichols
Season 2 To Season 3
Close
Miguel strikes up a relationship with Tory in season 2, who helps him move on from his breakup with Sam. They have fun together, but that's it. Their relationship is short-lived after Tory sees Miguel kiss a drunk Sam at a party, prompting a brawl, and one of the most memorable fight scenes in Cobra Kai, at school. Sadly, it seems that Miguel dated Tory only because he was on the rebound following his breakup with Sam and clearly wasn't over her.
Tory undoubtedly liked Miguel, but their relationship shows that sometimes dating isn't worth it when it's one-sided.
Tory was a distraction for Miguel and Miguel was someone to attempt to fit in with for Tory. It didn't help that Tory didn't come to see him in the hospital after the fall that left him paralyzed - as opposed to Sam, who did - which led to their breakup. Tory undoubtedly liked Miguel, but their relationship shows that sometimes dating isn't worth it when it's one-sided.
8 Robbie Keene & Sam LaRusso
Season 2
Close
Sam started developing a relationship with Robbie after the LaRussos let him live at their house during Cobra Kai season 2. They initially bonded while learning Miyagi-do from Daniel LaRusso. Robbie shows his empathetic side when he respects Sam's desire to keep their relationship a secret from everyone.
While the relationship does not work out in the end, Sam's influence further demonstrates that Robbie has the potential to be good despite his troubled past. Robby not being completely honest with Sam and his own insecurities about their relationship meant that the two were doomed from the start.
A big part of what kept their relationship from working was Robby's insecurity regarding Miguel; Robby purposely hid the fact that Miguel returned Mr. Miyagi's Medal of Honor out of fear that this would repair his relationship with Sam. This lie helped drive a wedge between Robby and Sam.
Related Why Robby Should Win Cobra Kai Season 6's Sekai Taikai After reaching the All-Valley finals twice and arguably losing due to unfair disadvantages, Robby deserves to win Cobra Kai Sseason 6's Sekai Taikai.
7 John Kreese & Betsy
Season 4
Close
This is one of the only relationships in Cobra Kai that occurs entirely in flashback, but it humanizes John Kreese, who initially seemed like the most irredeemable character in Cobra Kai. Kreese's romance with Betsy shows that he, too, was capable of making human connections with other people before he would become the hardened sensei he is in The Karate Kid/Cobra Kai series.
In fact, her death signifies Kreese embracing his darker side, as he chooses to kill his captain, Turner, instead of saving him after the latter admits that Betsy died in a car crash. So many of the early flashbacks to Kreese help the audience to better understand his character, but Betsy's death is the moment everything changes for him. Her death adds a sympathetic element to Kreese's character while also revealing his turning point.
Relationship Broke Up Because Sam and Kyler Kyler was a jerk Sam and Robby Robby nearly killed Miguel (by accident) Miguel and Tory Miguel was not over Sam Hawk and Moon Hawk had become a jerk John Kreese and Betsy Betsy died in a tragic car accident
6 Demitri Alexopoulos & Yasmine
Season 3 To Season 6
Close
At first, Yasmine appeared to be the one girl that Demetri wouldn't have a shot at dating in a million years, as she's the queen bee in their high school. She's one of the popular girls who initially welcomes Sam into her clique, but she also seems like the biggest bully of the group, making it hard for the audience to like her. That changes when she and Demetri begin to interact.
The two begin to share a connection when she learns what it feels like to be on the other side of bullying and he starts to grow confidence in who he is. Despite easily being Cobra Kai's unlikeliest couple, their relationship shows how much Yasmine has grown as a person. At the same time, Demetri realizes he only has to be confident in who he is to get the girl he wants. The appeal of their relationship is that it shows that two people who appear to be polar opposites can have a strong connection.
5 Eli "Hawk" Moskowitz & Moon
Season 1 To Season 2, Season 4 To Season 6
Close
Eli's arc in Cobra Kai is about his journey from a nerd to a bully, and finally to a competent fighter trying to be a better person. As his confidence grows upon "flipping the script," Eli begins a relationship with popular girl Moon. Moon is one of Yasmine and Sam's friends, but she's not as intent on having social power as Yasmine and she isn't interested in learning karate like Sam. She's actually something of a pacifist.
When Eli devolves into a bully himself by beating up Demetri, Moon dumps him. She doesn't like the person he's becoming under the tutelage of Cobra Kai. Initially, Eli doubles down, but upon realizing the errors of his ways, he gets back together with Moon when she tells him his confidence and energy were what attracted her to him in season 1.
Partially through her, Cobra Kai's Eli learns his lesson that he doesn't have to be an arrogant jerk to find happiness; he just has to be his true self. While Moon isn't seen much in seasons 5 or 6, they are, presumably, still together in the first part of season 6 since there has been no mention of another breakup.
4 Robbie Keene & Tory Nichols
Season 4 To Season 6
Close
Initially, Tory and Robby develop a rapport when they decide to get back at their exes at their prom. The duo show up together, wanting to make their exes jealous. They become friends, bonding over being hurt by Sam and Miguel, and their interest in karate. However, they start dating when they realize how much they have in common between their troubled pasts and their talents as fighters. They understand one another's need to survive in a world where the deck is stacked against them better than Sam or or Miguel do.
While they initially break up after Robby fails to convince Tory that Cobra Kai is bad, they ultimately overcome this issue, with Tory leaving Cobra Kai and getting back together with Robby. Their relationship shows that even if previous relationships don't work out, people can find better ones with partners who they fit better with.
Of course, that doesn't mean they always see eye-to-eye either. While Robby fully embraces Miyagi-do, Tory has a harder time with it. In season 6, she's still so full of anger over her past mistakes and over problems in her home life that she doesn't feel she can lean on Robby. She becomes singularly focused on proving herself in the Sekai Taikai, and it remains to be seen whether the two can find their way back to one another.

3 Daniel & Amanda LaRusso
Season 1 To Season 6
Close
On the surface, it appeared like Daniel and Amanda were the most well-adjusted couple in the series. However, when karate comes back into the fray, Daniel starts to indulge his pettier side, to which Amanda is quick to have him fall back in line.
In a sense, Daniel and Amanda embody what a happy and healthy marriage looks like.
As karate becomes more and more of a factor, Amanda becomes frustrated with the way his rivalries with Johnny, Kreese, and Terry Silver take over their lives. Daniel learns to mature through Amanda while bringing karate back into his life. In a sense, Daniel and Amanda embody what a happy and healthy marriage looks like. The two work as a team to raise their children and to grow together as a couple.
Every time Daniel gets sucked back into obsessing about his past, Amanda helps him to find ways to move forward. Even though she doesn't understand his love for karate, she starts to help out at the dojo and tournaments, wanting to understand how much it means to him. They strive to meet in the middle.
2 Carmen Diaz & Johnny Lawrence
Season 3 To Season 6
Close
As Johnny continues to develop his father-like bond with Miguel, he develops an interest in Miguel's mother, Carmen. While their relationship has its fair share of obstacles early in the show, including how Carmen initially sees Johnny as a bad influence, their rapport grows to the point where they start a family together.
More importantly, their relationship represents Johnny's second chance at having the loving family he wanted with Robby. Carmen motivates Johnny to better himself after being the guy who peaked in high school, including getting a job, improving his living situation, and being the father Miguel never had, even if Johnny has done some bad things to Miguel in Cobra Kai.
It's his relationship with Carmen that helps Johnny to see he isn't the perennial loser even though he keeps finding himself in bad situations. Likewise, Carmen welcoming Johnny into her life, and eventually Robby as well, is a sign that she's been able to move on from the bad relationship she had with Miguel's father. She's willing to open herself up to love again.
1 Miguel Diaz & Sam LaRusso
Season 1, Season 3 To Season 6
Close
Sam's and Miguel's relationship seems like a typical on-again, off-again fling. However, every time they get together, it's because one or both of them progress to get to that point. When they break up, it's because one or both of them have to work on their flaws. When they finally become better people, the two reconcile. Their progressing relationship in Cobra Kai shows how much their characters have grown over the course of the series.
At times, it appears Sam's and Miguel's relationship might be doomed throughout Cobra Kai, but Sam and Miguel represent how a relationship naturally progresses when two people grow together. They encourage one another, forgive one another's mistakes, and help one another mend their riffs with others around them. That's what makes Miguel and Sam the best relationship in Cobra Kai.
