Summary Taylor Sheridan's Lawmen: Bass Reeves is a successful Western series with the potential for a second season outside of the Yellowstone universe.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves straddles the line between history and fiction, delivering gripping Western action with Sheridan's signature flourishes.
The TV premiere of Lawmen: Bass Reeves will likely impact its viewership and the possibility of a second season, though it is not yet confirmed.
Taylor Sheridan's Lawmen: Bass Reeves is yet another smashing success, and the Western series has the potential for a second season. Released in 2023, Lawmen: Bass Reeves tells the story of the eponymous main character who was the first Black deputy U.S. Marshall who served west of the Mississippi River. Though it was originally envisioned as a spinoff of the Yellowstone universe, Lawmen was later confirmed to exist in its own timeline that is separate from Sheridan's smash-hit franchise. Nevertheless, the series delivers all the gripping Western action that is expected from one of the producer's other programs.
Premiering on November 5th, 2023 to a decent critical reception, Lawmen: Bass Reeves straddles the line between history and fiction as it brings the true story to life with Sheridan's signature flourishes. The Yellowstone TV shows are notoriously hit or miss when it comes to critical reception, but Lawmen snapped that trend with a well-received change of pace. The biggest chance for Lawmen: Bass Reeves to blaze its own trail outside the Yellowstone universe is for it to find a second gear and deliver on its open-ended Lawmen title. As such, a second season could help it expand into a bona fide franchise all its own.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves Season 2 Story
Lawmen Might Continue As An Anthology
Series star and executive producer David Oyelowo hinted that Lawmen: Bass Reeves might be the beginning of a franchise of series based on other historical law enforcement figures. With that in mind, the series could continue as Lawmen and highlight the likes of Wyatt Earp or Pat Garrett, or delve even deeper into Old West history with more unsung figures. Bass Reeves was something of an obscure figure, and Oyelowo's comments, along with those from creator Chad Feehan, suggest that Lawmen: Bass Reeves season 2 could be about someone else entirely.
