With video game movies no longer a niche genre, more and more hit games are getting the cinematic treatment in the 2020s. It’s clear why the game will work well as a live-action film, especially since it already pays homage to movies and cinema (including an optional “Akira Kurosawa” mode that removes color, adds film grain, and puts the sound through a tinny speaker). The 13th century feudal Japan setting is perfect for an epic historical drama, and those who’ve played through the Ghost of Tsushima story are already wondering when the release date for the movie adaptation will arrive.

We have a script, we're very close to getting our s--t together on that, as well. Development is always tricky, it's studios, it's strikes, and availabilities, and scouting. You have to will things into existence. I think the two things that I am closest and most interested in are Highlander and Ghost of Tsushima. Both amazing, amazing properties, the story of Ghost is, also, one of my favorite properties of all time.

Ghost Of Tsushima Movie Cast Details
Daisuke Tsuji Could Return
Comments from Chad Stahelski indicate that the casting process likely hasn’t started yet, however, it’s possible that the game's cast could return. Actor Daisuke Tsuji voiced Jin in the English version of the Ghost of Tsushima game and provided his likeness for the facial model and motion capture. The actor made it clear that he’d be happy to return to play Jin once again in the live-action Ghost of Tsushima movie cast (via GamingBible), and many fans of the game online have appeared supportive of the decision.
However, considering the fact that video game movies are big business now, it's entirely possible that the production might opt for a more famous actor to play the lead role. It's impossible to speculate on who that could be, but there are a host of Japanese and Japanese-American performers who could do justice to the gritty samurai story.

Will The Ghost Of Tsushima Movie Change Anything From The Game?

The script for the Ghost of Tsushima movie is written by screenwriter Takeshi Doscher (via Deadline) and is set in 13th century Japan, on the island of Tsushima. The isle is invaded by the Mongol fleet under the ruthless Khotun Khan (grandson of Genghis Khan). The protagonist, Jin, is helpless as his family and the rest of Clan Sakai are mercilessly wiped out by the Mongols without honor, and the now-clanless samurai warrior swears his vengeance.
Jin finds that the way of the samurai won’t be sufficient, and taking on Khotun Khan head-on is a fool's errand. He instead recruits various allies across Tsushima and learns the art of stealth. The Mongols are eventually repelled thanks to Jin’s efforts, although along the way he earns the ire of the Shogun, becoming their sworn enemy despite working with them to liberate their homeland.
The story is an intensely emotional and deep tapestry of betrayal and struggle, with a historical setting and narrative style that directly pays homage to the works of filmmakers such as Akira Kurosawa. It’s expected that the Ghost of Tsushima movie will directly adapt the story of the games, since it’s the tale of Jin and his defiance of the Mongol invasion that prompted calls for the 2020 hit to get a live-action adaption in the first place.
