Frasier Reboot Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Story & Everything We Know

Frasier Reboot Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Story & Everything We Know

Summary The Frasier reboot has received mixed reviews from critics, with some characterizing it as "safe" and lacking substance.

Despite the criticism, the show has gained traction and shows potential for a season 2, with over 2 million households tuning in for the premiere.

The fate of season 2 has been confirmed, and Paramount+ officially renewed Frasier for a second season in February 2024.

The reboot of Frasier premiered in October 2023, and now the popular returning sitcom has been renewed for a second season. Originally debuting back in 1993 as a spinoff of Cheers, Frasier followed the eponymous snooty psychiatrist as he moved from Boston to Seattle to host a talk radio show. Noted for its irreverent humor, which was anchored by Kelsey Grammer as Dr. Frasier Crane, the show ran for 11 seasons before finally ending in 2004. The reboot catches up with Frasier after he returns to Boston to start his life's "third act".

Though Grammer has been praised for his effortless return to the Frasier role, the reboot has been met with apathetic responses from many critics who have characterized it as "safe" and little else (via Rotten Tomatoes). Though the Frasier reboot divided fans and critics, the show has been gaining traction and continues to prove that the three-decades-old show still has staying power. Therefore, it only seems natural that the Frasier reboot will return for season 2, and it was renewed in early 2024.

The Frasier Reboot Season 2 Latest News

A release date has been revealed for Frasier season 2, with Paramount+ announcing that the show will return on Thurs, Sept 19th, with weekly episodes. The announcement came alongside some news about the story of season 2, as Frasier will be returning to Seattle for one episode, allowing the show to catch up with more characters from the original.

Also announced today, FRASIER’s sophomore season will see Dr. Frasier Crane return to his radio roots at KACL in Seattle for an episode. The episode will feature previously announced guest stars stepping back into their roles from the original Frasier including Dan Butler as Bob "Bulldog" Briscoe, Edward Hibbert as Gil Chesterton and Harriet Sansom Harris as Frasier’s delightfully devilish agent, Bebe Glazer.

Frasier Will Return In September

Though it took a few months to finally arrive, Paramount+ officially renewed Frasier for season 2 in February 2024. Despite middling reviews, the reboot has proven to be a popular continuation, and it only made sense for Paramount to bring it back for more. The second season's production got underway in May 2024, and a release date was announced in July. The new season of Frasier will arrive on Paramount+ on Thursday, September 19.

Familiar Faces In Season 2

Close

Sitcoms don't typically see a lot of turnover in the cast from season to season, which means the second season of Frasier will likely look a lot like the first in terms of the ensemble. The Frasier reboot wouldn't be Frasier without Kelsey Grammer in the title role, so he will certainly return as both the star and executive producer. Another confirmed return is Peri Gilpin who shocked fans by returning to her role as Roz Doyle in season 1. Gilpin will play a larger role in season 2 and Roz has been upgraded to recurring status after her season 1 cameo.

New names are joining the cast of Frasier season 2 with the announcement that Kelsey Grammer's daughter Greer Grammer will play the role of Alice Doyle, Roz's adult daughter. Yvette Nicole Brown is slated to play Olivia's sister Monica in a guest role, while Patricia Heaton has been cast as the recurring character, Holly.

Continuing the trend of bringing back characters from the original series, Frasier season 2 has cast an original star and her character's daughter as well. Bringing back one of the classic show's most beloved characters, Harriet Sansom Harris will reprise her role as cutthroat agent Bebe Glazer. Joining Harris is newcomer Rachel Bloom who assumes the role of Bebe's daughter, Phoebe. Presumably, this is connected to the episode that sees Frasier return to Seattle, when original Frasier stars Dan Butler and Edward Hibbert will reprise their roles as Frasier's former KACL co-workers Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe and Gil Chesterton, respectively.

Harris' Bebe Glazer appeared in 11 episodes of the original Frasier series.

The confirmed cast for Frasier season 2 includes:

Actor Frasier Role Kelsey Grammer Frasier Crane Peri Gilpin Roz Doyle Jack Cutmore-Scott Freddy Crane Anders Keith David Crane Toks Olagundoye Olivia Finch Jess Salgueiro Eve Nicholas Lyndhurst Alan Cornwall Patricia Heaton Holly Greer Grammar Alice Doyle Yvette Nicole Brown Monica Dan Butler Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe Edward Hibbert Gil Chesterton Harriet Sansom Harris Bebe Glazer Rachel Bloom Phoebe Glazer

The Frasier Reboot Season 2 Story Details

What Will Happen When Frasier Returns?

Frasier will probably still struggle to fit in with his fellow faculty at Harvard, and David's woes with women will most likely continue as he tries to woo Eve.

Though nothing has been revealed about the plot of Frasier season 2, it isn't impossible to speculate about what the episodes will look like. Because the show is a sitcom, the stories aren't particularly complex, and ongoing storylines are treated differently than in more serialized shows. Frasier will probably still struggle to fit in with his fellow faculty at Harvard, and David's woes with women will most likely continue as he tries to woo Eve.

The introduction of the new character Holly, a witty bartender who is described as a new love interest for Frasier, opens up a world of possibilities in the upcoming season, especially with Roz back in the picture. Though Frasier and Roz are platonic at the moment, there's no telling if their former one-off fling could be reunited.

And of course, with the announcement that at least one episode will take place in Seattle, this season will explore what has happened in the lives of many of Frasier's good friends and colleagues from KACL. The biggest question here, though, is if Niles will be mentioned. David Hyde Pierce has made it clear that he will not be returning, but with Frasier in Seattle, the show will presumably have to reference the character, and explain why he is not seen.

Whatever happens in Frasier season 2, there are a lot more plot threads to explore in the upcoming episodes.
