Rebel Moon 1 saw several notable deaths, and the recent Rebel Moon: Part 2 - The Scargiver piled on even more bodies in the climactic, action-packed finish.
Rebel Moon parts 1 & 2 are both streaming on Netflix!
The latest Zack Snyder sci-fi epic has received hefty criticism from fans and critics, but it's hard to deny the sheer entertainment value of some of the film's action. The Rebel Moon 2 ending consists of a nearly hour-long battle on the moon of Veldt, with the heroes and farmers uniting against tyranny. Sacrifices were made during the battle, including some known characters. The sequel also brought back two characters who were killed or presumed dead in Rebel Moon 1, building on the world's mythology.

Sindri & Sif From The Farming Village on Veldt
Sindri & Sif's Killing Was The Catalyst For Rebel Moon's Plot
Close
Sindri and Sif were the leaders of the farming community on Veldt that Kora almost considered her home at the beginning of Rebel Moon 1. Their deaths at the hands of Admiral Atticus Noble not only established him as a vicious villain but also gave reason to Kora and her adoptive father, Hagen, to entertain the possibility of joining the rebellion against the Imperium, something that Kora never wanted because she was hiding from the Imperium.
Marcus & Faunus From The Imperium Force
Kora Killed Marcus & Faunus To Save Sam
The intentions of Marcus, Faunus, and the Imperium forces on Veldt against Sam were made clear as soon as they started settling in the farming community. By standing up for Sam, Kora revealed her fighting skills but also put a target on Veldt, as whenever Noble returned, he would have known about it, annihilating all settlements on Veldt. Kora's fight against the Imperium forces resulted in the killing of the higher-ups Marcus and Faunus, but it also reminded Kora that she could fight the Imperium, especially if she wanted to protect her newfound home.
Related 10 Changes Rebel Moon 3 Needs To Make To Redeem Zack Snyder's 21% & 17% Rotten Tomatoes Misfires Zack Snyder hopes to continue the Rebel Moon franchise with a third installment. Here's what he and Netflix can do to get things back on track.
Kora's Family Before She Became Arthelais
Balisarius Had Kora's Family Killed Before He Kidnapped Her
Kora's dark Rebel Moon backstory saw Balisarius kidnap her when she was only nine years old after he slaughtered her family before turning her into one of the best fighters in the Imperium elite guard. While Rebel Moon: Part 1 - A Child of Fire never showed Kora's biological family onscreen, their deaths deeply impacted Kora, as the Imperium's conquest of her world essentially removed her from everything she knew, only to turn her into a war machine that did their bidding, slaughtering people on their behalf.
Hickman On Neu-Wodi
Bennu Killed Hickman For Enslaving Her
Rebel Moon 1 didn't expand on Tarak's backstory, but his ability to ride the Bennu essentially bought him his freedom from Hickman. However, Hickman's confidence that, just because Tarak rode the Bennu, he would have been able to do so also, was his downfall, as the beast easily removed him from its back, brutally killing him after Hickman had kept it tied and shoved around by his underlings for days.
King Athander & Queen
King Athander Wanted To Stop The Imperium's Expansion And Was Assassinated By Balisarius
Close
While Rebel Moon 1 hinted at Balisarius's betrayal of the King and his ascendance to Regent, Rebel Moon 2's flashback showed the event. The first film hinted at the killing of the royal bloodline's heirs because Princess Issa would have allegedly been the one to bring kindness to the Motherworld of the Imperium, but Rebel Moon 2 revealed she is still alive. With their rule and their deaths being central to Rebel Moon's events, the royal family and Princess Issa will be pivotal to events going forward. As for King Athander and his queen, they're confirmed dead.
Harmada On Daggus
Nemesis Killed The Last Ogumo, Harmada, For Kidnapping A Child
Killing Harmada was the perfect introduction of Nemesis to Rebel Moon, as it not only showcased Nemesis' fighting abilities but also highlighted her morals, which prohibited her from celebrating Harmada's death because she viewed her as a victim who needed to be stopped rather than an enemy she was proud to have vanquished. As a result of one of the most scenic Rebel Moon fights, Harmada's death briefly introduced the Ogumo species and a new world, building up the universe at Rebel Moon's center.
Levitica On Sharaan
Atticus Noble Killed Levitica For Sheltering The Bloodaxe Rebels
Noble killed King Levitica because he harbored the rebels and fugitives led by the Bloodaxes on Sharaan. Sharaan's central values of honor and charity guaranteed Levitica wouldn't have turned a blind eye to Darrian and Devra Bloodaxe's plight, not out of support for the rebels, but because their civilization's tenets imposed Levitica to offer help to anybody who asked. However, that turned out to be Sharaan's downfall, as Noble was only waiting for the perfect excuse to annihilate them, as he did to entire worlds previously in the Imperium's name.
Kai On Gondival
Gunnar Killed Kai For Betraying The Heroes
Close
Kai's betrayal of Kora and the rebels almost resulted in their brutal death in Rebel Moon 1. Misjudging Gunnar's character eventually proved fatal to him, as Kai believed Gunnar to be a coward just like he was by betting on his leaving his friends to die to secure his survival. While the unlikely group of rebels wouldn't have been possible without Kai, his underestimation of Gunnar proved his downfall. Kai's knowledge assembled an apt group of fighters, making his death inevitable.
his underestimation of Gunnar proved his downfall.
Darrian Bloodaxe & Most Rebels On Gondival
Darrian Bloodaxe Sacrificed Himself To Save The Rebels
Close
Watching his pilots die twice enraged Darrian, but it also propelled him to run at the Imperium's ship to try and stop their guns. His last-ditch attempt at protecting his soldiers resulted in his unavoidable death, but his sacrifice still saved Millius and the other rebels, making his death the first sacrifice among those Kora assembled to defend Veldt. Darrian returned in Rebel Moon 2 in a flashback, showing the continued importance of his actions to characters like Milius and Devra.
Atticus Noble On Veldt
Kora Killed Him On Gondival, Then Again On Veldt
Close
Kora's final fight against Atticus Noble on Gondival saw her come up on top after almost falling to her death, and all the blows she delivered to Noble effectively killed him. However, Rebel Moon: Part 1 - A Child of Fire's final scene shows the villain being brought to life. In Rebel Moon 2, Noble returned to Veldt with his forces to seek revenge on the Scargiver, resulting in a rematch with Kora on The King's Gaze dreadnought ship. This time, he was stabbed by Gunnar and subsequently decapitated by Kora, killing him for good.

Den On Veldt

Den was a Veldtian hunter who was in charge of the village in Rebel Moon 2, helping the heroes in its defense. Den made for an excellent warrior, using his hunting abilities to thin the Imperium's numbers in battle. However, he was out of his depth when he pursued Atticus Noble, engaging in a fight with him on a dropship. Den puts in a decent effort but is ultimately killed by the film's villain.
Cassius & The Imperium's Forces On Veldt
Defeated By The Rebels On Veldt
Close
Cassius Falto is one of Atticus Noble's main followers and a commander aboard The King's Gaze ship. In Rebel Moon 2, Kora infiltrates the dreadnought and sets up detonators, bringing the enormous spacecraft down. Cassius Falto is presumably among the casualties of this destruction, as he's never seen escaping. However, this could mean he somehow fled ahead of time, but it's fair to say much of his forces were removed from the board.

His achievements far surpassed his capability, proving how far valor and good nature can go in desperate times.
Gunnar was a farmer from Veldt before the action of Rebel Moon, yet his heroic deeds quickly accumulated. Zack Snyder explained Gunnar's death (via THR), saying, "Gunnar is a good guy, but he's just a guy. He's not necessarily a soldier or a leader." His achievements far surpassed his capability, proving how far valor and good nature can go in desperate times. Gunnar was the "heart" of the rebels and Kora's main love interest, but he suffered a gunshot wound from Atticus aboard the dreadnought, which he later succumbed to. A Rebel Moon 3 would see Kora continue to greave.

Nemesis On Veldt
Nemesis Died Defending Villagers On Veldt
Close
In one of Rebel Moon 2's flashbacks, audiences caught a glimpse of Nemesis's tragic backstory, where her children were killed by the Imperium. On Veldt, Nemesis and one of the village boys formed an unlikely bond, and she sacrificed herself in the main battle to protect the people. She faced off against multiple Krypteia, similarly armed with the powerful oracle steel blades, but eventually was killed by Balbus. However, the village boy, Eljun, distracted Balbus long enough for Nemesis to take her enemy down with her.
