Sweet Home Season 2’s 10 New Characters, Ranked Worst To Best
Summary Sweet Home season 2 introduces a new cast of characters who add depth to the story, but some are poorly developed and miss their potential.
Min Seo-jin and Kim Young-hoo from the Guard Corps stand out as interesting and layered characters.
Yi-kyung's child is a crucial character who could hold the key to understanding and stopping the curse, while Sergeant Tak and Chief Ji each have dark secrets and play important roles in the new season.
Sweet Home season 2 introduces several new characters, and some of them, such as Seo Jin, managed to stand out among the rest. Given how popular Sweet Home season 1 is, moving away from some of the show’s original characters to introduce new names was a risky decision. The residents of the Green Home were part of the reason the series was considered one of Netflix’s best Korean dramas, but fortunately, some season 2 characters were welcome additions.
Hyun-su is barely in Sweet Home season 2, which shows how different the series’ new chapter was compared to the first season. It was only during Sweet Home season 2’s ending that all storylines finally came together, and the show might have introduced way too many characters after the time jump. Sweet Home season 2’s new cast of characters includes regular survivors, mysterious leaders, and someone who could be the show’s most powerful monster yet.

10 Hani (Chae Won-bin)
A Young Woman Trying To Reintegrate Into Society
Close
Chae Won-bin plays Hani in the Sweet Home cast, but she has been a strange addition to the series. It was not clear what exactly Hani wanted, and her interactions with Eun-yu and Chan-young ranged from awkward to extremely problematic. Hani is an addict who has built up a tolerance to the drugs that affect others in the series, and she uses this to her advantage.
The problem is that her only real character trait in season 2 was that she was weird.
She drugged Chan-young so that he would spend more time in her trailer, which is unfortunately played for laughs in the show. Hani’s goal was to meet other survivors after spending at least a year hiding in the woods and living inside a trailer. The problem is that her only real character trait in season 2 was that she was weird.
Luckily, she improved in season 3 and had much better character development. She opened up and was a bright light in the third season as she set out with Hyun-su, Eun-yu, and Private Park for the stadium. However, as the show ended, she didn't get much screen time compared to others.
9 Ho-sang (Hyun Bong-sik)
A Survivor Who Doesn't Trust Others
Close
Not much was known about Ho-sang in Sweet Home. Season 2 establishes that he and Hani have been living the apocalypse together, but the show does not reveal whether he is her father, mentor, or former boss. Even other characters, such as Chan-young, wanted to understand more of those two’s dynamic, yet neither of them bothered to explain.
The most interesting thing about Ho-sang is how he does not trust people, which is why he has avoided joining any large group of survivors. Ho-sang wanted nothing to do with joining the group of survivors and wanted to just keep to himself. However, that was not meant to be.
He ended up drugged by Hani, though, and she was taking them toward other people. Season 3 showed him starting to show signs of the monster within and becoming dangerous, so he might have been better off staying on his own. However, like many of the new season 2 characters, Ho-Sang mostly disappeared in the final season and didn't play a huge role in the end.
8 Ye-seul (Yang Hye-ji)
The Daughter Of Season 3's Most Interesting Character
Close
Ye-seul could have been one of Sweet Home season 2’s best characters, especially because of her relationship with her mother, Chief Ji. Additionally, the series suggests that Eun-yu is to blame for the death of Ye-seul’s father, which could have created a cool dynamic between the two characters.
Unfortunately, Sweet Home does not treat Ye-seul with the depth the character asked for, and she spends most of the season as comic relief. Ye-seul’s remarks about Chan-young are funny, but the character could have been much more than that. That said, Chief Ji’s story showed the importance of Ye-seul in Sweet Home season 3.
This played out in deadly fashion as it turned out that Chief Ji had a son who was a monster, and she had him hidden at the stadium while she resented Ye-seul as her adoptive daughter. Regarding the new characters from season 2, Ye-seul was the most important, and Yang Hye-ji did a great job of making her sympathetic and always interesting.
7 Min Seo-jin (Jung Suk-Won)
A Layered Soldier
Close
Sweet Home season 2 gives a lot of screen time to the members of the Guard Corps, also known as the Crows, especially after they form a new group of survivors using an abandoned football stadium as their base. Not all members of the Guard Corps are properly developed, but some of them go through solid character arcs. This includes Min Seo-jin, whose thought persona was tied to his desire to protect his brothers.
Additionally, despite always seeming strong, Seo-jin had a lot of insecurities and was not sure whether they would survive. Seo-jin seeing his friends die at the end was particularly tragic. With that said, making him sympathetic at all after the scene where they burned the mother monster alive in front of her crying baby was an impressive feat, but his platoon mostly met their end in season 2.
The problem with Min Seo-jin is that once most of the Crows died in season 2, no one other than Kim Young-hoo mattered, so Min was someone who just drifted out of the story and was no longer an important part of the season 3 story.

6 Kim Young-hoo (Kim Mu-yeol)
A Potential Leader Who Always Prioritizes The Mission
Close
A lot of what was said about Seo-jin applies to Kim Young-hoo, who would always put the mission first. As a sergeant from UDT, he puts his life on the line to protect his fellow soldiers and is willing to die to protect others. However, what made Young-hoo even more interesting was how he opposed Sergeant Tak Sang-sa multiple times.
The character respected the hierarchy, but he did not do anything he believed was not right. This made him one of the best characters among the often vengeful soldiers. Considering that Sergeant Taki was indeed lying to both his men and the survivors, it seems like Young-hoo was right in questioning some of his orders.
In the third season, he was in a tough place since he barely survived, and many of his brothers died, and he couldn't do anything to save them. This tragedy left him feeling survivor's guilt, although he pulled it together to fight to protect people from the monsters again at the stadium. He was on the front lines and was a great soldier, although like the other soldiers, his importance lessened.
5 Park Chan-young (Jung Jin-young)
A Fun & Compelling Character
Close
One of the most important new characters in Sweet Home, Park Chan-young played a significant role in season 3 after the explosive season 2 ending. Whereas most members of the military were depicted as serious, brute characters who were not interested in making friends, Chan-young was open to connecting with the residents of the stadium.
This difference is likely due to him being one of the youngest soldiers in the Crow Platoon. Sweet Home season 2 explored a particularly interesting dynamic between Chan-young and Eun-yu, with the former trying to understand more about the latter.
Chan-young did not want Eun-yu to put herself in danger and ended up getting in trouble himself to assist her in her journey. While not becoming an important Sweet Home character until the second season, he played a huge role in the final season, since it stuck at the stadium more than with the Green Home characters, and he was willing to die to protect others.
4 Seo Yi-su (Kim Si-a)
The Kid Might Be Sweet Home's Strongest Character
Close
Possibly the most important Sweet Home character after season 2, Yi-kyung’s daughter, Seo Yi-su, could be the key to understanding – and even stopping – the curse.
Possibly the most important Sweet Home character after season 2, Yi-kyung’s daughter, Seo Yi-su, could be the key to understanding – and even stopping – the curse. The child was born as a monster, which has seemingly never happened before. However, the girl eventually turns into a human, meaning she is a special type of neo-human. Yi-kyung’s relationship with her daughter was very tragic and made for some of the saddest scenes in the season.
This includes Seo Yi-su transforming her mother into a monster to prevent her from dying, only for Yi-kyung to die anyway. Seo Yi-su became even more important in season 3 when her backstory plays out. She began aging rapidly, going from a baby to an older girl in a short time (her mother was a human and her father a monster), and her powers developed more as she grew. She not only can grow into a monster, but she can turn other people into monsters and has a healing factor.
Sadly, things didn't work out well for the young girl, but she proved very powerful right until the end. Sang-won was only a child and was actually still a toddler despite her rapid aging, so when Sang-won used her body to host his spirit, she ended up dying in Hyun-su's arms, one of the most tragic moments of the third season.

3 Dr. Lim (Oh Jung-se)
A Scientist Who Is Always One Step Ahead Of Everyone
Close
Dr. Lim is far from being a good person, as he had no problem with killing countless people if it meant keeping the location of the vaccine a secret. Additionally, he showed no compassion toward his test subjects, ordering many to be killed after his experiments were concluded. That said, in terms of character, Dr. Lim is one of the most interesting additions to Sweet Home.
The way he perceives the monster curse, plus how he seems to understand far more about it than all other characters, makes him a key piece of the show’s puzzle. Dr. Lim’s most recent discoveries make his season 3 story even more exciting.
By the end, Dr. Lim gave a lot of extra context to the virus, and while there was a lot more than could have been done with him, the character remains an incredibly important one, despite the lessening screen time as the final battles approached. His arrogance made his death satisfying for many viewers, even though it was at the hands of the villain, Sang-won.
2 Sergeant Tak In-hwan (Yu Oh-seong)
A Complex Leader Who Hides Many Secrets
Close
At first, it seems like Sergeant Tak will be the generic military who will be on the show simply to kill as many monsters as possible. However, Tak becomes instantly more interesting after he refuses to kill a monster that had just been born. The Sergeant explains his decision by saying they should only be monsters that pose a threat, suggesting his character would be a lot different from what was expected. Additionally, Sergeant Tak was hiding a major secret – he was infected too.
The way Tak tried to keep everyone calm in the stadium while also hiding he was technically a threat to them makes him Sweet Home’s most complex character. In season 3, Tak shocks everyone when he transforms into a monster and then actually chooses to help the human survivors, leading them out of the war zone. Yu Oh-seong plays one of the most important soldiers on the show, since he is a monster and has complete control when he changes.
Oh-seong has a long career in movies, and while he got his start as a comedy star, he really made his name in Korean cinema in action movies, taking on roles in everything from historical epics to police movies and sports features and detective flicks. He brought that experience to Sweet Home, and made Tak a well-rounded and surprising character.
1 Chief Ji (Kim Shin-rok)
A "Mystery Box" Who Won't Let Others Stay In Her Way
Close
Chief Ji may not be as complex as Sergeant Tak, at least based on what Sweet Home presented in season 2. Introduced as the person tasked with keeping things in order and making sure the group of survivors could properly use the stadium as their home, Chief Ji eventually became a mystery box.
While she would not accept all of Sergeant Tak’s input and even demands him to prove whether he is a monster, Chief Ji is also hiding terrible truths about her. She is hiding a monster in the stadium, which turns out to be her son in season 3, and is willing to sacrifice others to keep that secret.
Chief Ji was the main antagonist at the end, and the transition from a mystery to a bad person was perfect in season 3.
Chief Ji also has a huge battle with her adoptive daughter, Seo Yi-su, who was born a monster but did not have the same loving connection with Chief Ji as the woman's son. Ji finally gave herself over to her son to end that threat. Chief Ji was the main antagonist at the end, and the transition from a mystery to a bad person was perfect in season 3.
