What Happened To Latonya Pottain After My 600-Lb Life Season 11
Summary Latonya Pottain's weight-loss journey on My 600-lb Life was challenging and didn't have the expected outcome.
Latonya continues to work on her health goals and is determined to make progress, despite setbacks.
Traumas from Latonya's past, including the loss of loved ones, have played a significant role in her struggles.
My 600-lb Life season 11 star Latonya Pottain is memorable, and it's time to talk about her life after the popular TV series. Her weight-loss journey on the show ended with Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, known as Dr. Now, telling her that there was nothing that he could do for her because she wouldn't comply with his program.
When the episode began, Latonya, a 37-year-old from Shreveport, Louisiana, weighed 632 pounds. She revealed that she'd met with Dr. Now five years before, but didn't follow through with his program.
During her time on My 600-lb Life season 11, Latonya had a support system consisting of her fiance, Daune, her nephew Adrian, and her caretaker, Virgie. Nonetheless, each time the My 600-Lb Life star met with Dr. Now, she'd gained weight. The only time she slimmed down during the episode was when Dr. Now hospitalized her due to a dangerous heart health issue. This happened while she was on a controlled diet. Dr. Now told her she had to lose 60 pounds at home - if she didn't, he could no longer work with her.

Latonya Pottain's Still On A Weight Loss Journey
She's A Work In Progress
In a January 24 Facebook post, Latonya announced that her My 600-lb Life episode would air in February. Latonya wrote that her story would help others, but added, "no I have not reached my goal but I'm working on me." In a February 12 TikTok video, Latonya revealed that she's still doing the weight loss program. She also shared that she and Daune are still together. Latonya added that the negative feedback doesn't bother her. However, she appreciates all the positive thoughts sent her way. She said she is currently seeing a psychiatrist and:

Can She Do It?

Above, Latonya worked out with a trainer on the show. That didn't go very well. However, in a March 2023 interview with Shreveport Times, Latonya really opened up about her life after My 600-lb Life. She also talked about a painful upbringing that sparked her food addiction.
Quite often, My 600-Lb Life cast members have a lot of trauma in their backgrounds - it's hard for them to deal with their emotional pain. They turn to food in order to numb their feelings. This is why the show's stars deserve sympathy even when they fail to meet their weight-loss goals. Latonya didn't succeed while appearing in the series, but now, she's regrouping. She told the publication:
"I'm back with my trainer, I'm dieting and my weight is going down," explained Pottain. "I'm also moving to be closer to my family so I can get my weight down and get my surgery.
So, clearly, Latonya hasn't lost a drastic amount of weight - she hasn't had weight-loss surgery. That's how most people on the show slim down and change their lives. However, she plans to get it. That being said, her goal may be too difficult to achieve. In the past, she wasn't able to stick with a strict diet and exercise routine. That could happen again.
Hopefully, she will be able to hit her goal this time. Even if she doesn't, she deserves compassion. It isn't easy to lose a lot of weight, as mental health factors in.
To conquer an addiction, a person needs to address the root cause. Why is it happening? Until that's done, it can be so hard to change.
So, what trauma pushed Latonya onto such a difficult path? Well, the death of her mother marked the start of her descent into emotional eating. When she was only 12, her mom passed away - that's incredibly painful and disorienting. It's no wonder that Latonya looked for ways to soothe her heart and mind.
That wasn't the only tragedy that the young girl was confronted with. She also lost her father, although he didn't actually die. He relocated because he was involved with a woman and wanted to be with her. These things are very serious - first, the death of a primary caregiver... the one who gave birth to Latonya. Then, the feeling of abandonment by the other parent.
Later on, Latonya lost her brother. All of this is very sad. On the show, the weight-loss journeys are tracked by cameras, and sometimes, the cast members who fail to meet their goals get dragged by fans. However, if those viewers walked a mile in their shoes, they might not throw shade.
As with any addiction, there's a strong sense of compulsion pushing the person to do what's not good for them. That craving can be overpowering. In Latonya's case, the loss of two parents in such a short span of time led to a downward spiral. She was just a child.
Latonya Pottain Has Endured So Much Fat-Shaming
Fans Can Be Unkind
On a Reddit thread started by Automoderator, some fans were sympathetic, but others were extremely harsh and judgmental. When it comes to social media, it can be a minefield for current or former cast members. They probably read a lot of what's said about them, and the cruelest remarks may make them feel miserable. It's possible that they're able to detach, but then again, people who appear on the show are often very sensitive. In a comment on the aforementioned thread, one critic discussed a breakfast that Latonya had enjoyed:
That breakfast was horrifying. She had a two huge bowls of cheesy grits, a dozen cheesy scrambled eggs, 10 biscuits, 8 sausage patties, 8 waffles with butter and a whole ass bottle of syrup, and more bacon than I can make out. I don't know how she's even alive.
Another critic got heated over Latonya's conduct on the show. They didn't think she was a mature presence on the series. That person said:
That scene in her hospital room where she threw a temper tantrum over the food was an embarrassment and a disgrace.
The thread was long and there were plenty of negative comments. Overall, Latonya was perceived as a difficult patient, although she wasn't as controversial as other show villains, such as Steven and Justin Assanti. However, it's important not to dehumanize people who appear on the show. When they are being filmed, they're often at low points in their lives. What is shown isn't all they are.
Latonya Pottain's Caretaker Virgie Passed Away
This Was A Heavy Blow
Close
In a February 11 Facebook post, Latonya paid tribute to her beloved caretaker, Virgie. The caregiver cooked for her, helped her bathe, and was one of her biggest cheerleaders during her weight-loss journey. She was kind, gentle, and devoted to helping Latonya enhance her well-being. Latonya shared a photograph of Virgie and wrote, "As I look at ur picture and the tears fall I miss u my love but I can hear u saying life is hard but it's fair hunny." She concluded the post with, "Get ur rest..... I love you."
Although Latonya failed in her My 600-lb Life episode, she is still interested in improving her health. With any luck, she'll be more successful in the future, because Dr. Now informed her that her life depends on it. Currently, Latonya is working on her goals, which include opening a girls' home in Shreveport, and qualifying for weight-loss surgery. Hopefully, the My 600 Lb-Life star will be able to achieve her goals.
My 600-lb Life airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on TLC.
