Agatha Show Cast & Marvel Character Guide
Summary The upcoming Agatha series will explore the story of witch Agatha Harkness, expanding the magical world of the MCU.
Reuniting familiar faces from WandaVision, Agatha will introduce new characters, including Broadway star Patti LuPone.
The diverse cast of Agatha includes comedic talents like Kathryn Hahn and Debra Jo Rupp, enhancing the Marvel Universe's mythos.
Focusing on the titular Phase 4 villain, Marvel Studios' Agatha All Along will be reuniting several actors from WandaVision, as well as introducing exciting new characters to the MCU's Phase 5. WandaVision kicked off the MCU's Multiverse Saga as Marvel Studios' first Disney+ series, and the project's success led to the development of two spinoffs: Agatha All Along and Vision Quest. The upcoming series will develop the eponymous witch's storyline that started in WandaVision, and expand the mythos of witches and sorcery in the MCU timeline.
While a second season of WandaVision won't be produced by Marvel Studios, the series' storyline has already been continuing in subsequent MCU projects, most notably Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and several of WandaVision's other characters will see some major developments in upcoming MCU releases. Vision Quest is expected to follow White Vision on his new journey, while Agatha All Along will focus on the Salem witch Agatha Harkness, as well as marking the return of a number of residents of Westview, New Jersey. Here's a breakdown of Agatha All Along's cast and characters.
The Agatha Harkness show has gone through several name changes, including Agatha: House Of Harkness, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and Agatha before seemingly finally settling on Agatha All Along.
Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness
Close
Kathryn Hahn debuted as Agatha Harkness in WandaVision, originally depicted as Wanda Maximoff and Vision's nosy neighbor who eventually revealed herself to be a powerful witch. Hahn started her acting career as grief counselor Lily Lebowski in Crossing Jordan before going on to star in dozens of comedy projects, many of which earned her critical acclaim.
With appearances in Parks and Recreation, Transparent, Glass Onion, and Bad Moms, to name a few, Hahn's experience in both comedy and drama made her perfect for a role in the MCU, leading to her bringing Marvel Comics sorceress Agatha Harkness to life in WandaVision, a role that she'll reprise in the Agatha All Along show.
Agatha Harkness is a friend and mentor to the Scarlet Witch in Marvel Comics, and while she was depicted as a villain in WandaVision, she has already been shown to be a morally complicated character. This appears set to be built on in Agatha All Along, as Marvel Studio's Head of Streaming, Television and Animation Brad Winderbaum described her as an antihero in the show when discussed it in The Official Marvel Podcast, suggesting the character could experience a redemption arc of sorts within her solo Disney+ series.
The Agatha All Along trailer has shed more light on what to expect from her story in the show, which is set to see her break free of the mind control Wanda placed on her and take The Witch's Road in an effort to regain her powers and rebuild her coven. However, she seemingly won't be doing this alone, as the show looks set to have her accompanied by a not inconsiderable cast along the way.
Debra Jo Rupp as Sharon Davis
Known for her role of Kitty Forman in That '70s Show and That '90s Show, Debra Jo Rupp debuted in the MCU's WandaVision as Sharon Davis, a resident of Westview who became trapped in the Scarlet Witch's Hex. Rupp was introduced as Mrs. Hart, the wife of Vision's boss in WandaVision's 1950s-themed premiere episode, and she eventually confronted Wanda Maximoff as herself in the season finale.
Rupp's experience in sitcoms such as Kate & Allie, Family Matters, and Friends made her a perfect fit for WandaVision. They should also make her a perfect fit for Agatha All Along, which looks set to keep a comedic tone even as it delves into some more horror-related territory.
Emma Caulfield Ford as Sarah Proctor
Emma Caulfield Ford is perhaps best remembered for her role of Anya Jenkins in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and she has also had roles in Once Upon a Time, Supergirl, and Life Unexpected. Ford was introduced in WandaVision as Dottie Jones, the leader of Westview's social elite, though she was later revealed to be Sarah Proctor, yet another resident of the town trapped by the Scarlet Witch's Hex.
Sarah Proctor was the focus of several prominent theories, including those that revealed her as Thor villain Enchantress, the witch Arcanna, or even the demon Mephisto. The extent of Emma Caulfield Ford's role in Agatha All Along is currently unclear.
Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu
Broadway legend Patti LuPone was confirmed to be joining Agatha All Along's cast in December 2022, revealed to be portraying the witch Lilia Calderu. LuPone's stage career has seen her earn three Tony Awards for roles in Evita, Gypsy, and 2022's Company, and she's received many more nominations.
On screen, she has starred in projects including Beau Is Afraid, American Horror Story, Hollywood, and Pose. Her character in Agatha All Along, Lilia Calderu, has been noted to be a 450-year-old witch and a member of Agatha Harkness' original coven whose skill is divination, and she's potentially adapted from Marvel Comics' Calderu, who is the keeper of the Book of Cagliostro.
Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer Kale
Sasheer Zamata starred as a tenure cast member on Saturday Night Live from 2014 to 2017 and has also starred in a variety of other projects, including Woke, Home Economics, I Feel Pretty, and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Zamata was cast in Agatha All Along in November 2022, and revealed that she would be portraying Jennifer Kale, a notable witch in Marvel Comics with connections to Man-Thing, Ghost Rider, and Doctor Strange.
In Marvel Comics, Kale is a member of "The Witches" along with Topaz and Satana, so it's possible this team could be forming in Phase 5's Agatha All Along. This is supported by the show's trailer, which appears to showcase Agatha forming a group of witches to assist her in her journey along The Witch's Road to help her reobtain her magical powers.
Joe Locke's MCU Role Was Announced In 2022
Joe Locke began his TV career with a starring role as Charlie Spring in Netflix's coming-of-age drama Heartstopper, and was announced to be joining the cast of Agatha All Along in November 2022.
The Agatha All Along trailer appears to show that Locke will be a key character for the series, prominently featuring him among the cast, and suggesting the story will primarily focus around his adventures with Agatha.
The official description for the show further confirms this, mentioning that "the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road," meaning Locke's character is both responsible for returning Agatha to herself and for setting her on her quest to regain her abilities. Interestingly, despite this prominence in the plot, the name of Locke's MCU character isn't yet known, described only as "Teen" in official promotional material.
Although Locke's role hasn't yet been confirmed, there is a great deal of speculation that'll he be portraying Marvel Comics' Billy Kaplan, the reincarnated son of the Scarlet Witch and the young hero known as Wiccan. As a prominent LGBT+ character in Marvel Comics, Kaplan's introduction in Agatha All Along would be a great step forward for representation in the MCU, and this casting would explain why Locke's role hasn't been directly named yet, as this would be a surprise best saved for the show itself.
Aubrey Plaza's MCU Role Was Announced In November 2022
Best known for her role of April Ludgate in Parks and Recreation, Aubrey Plaza has been cast in an undisclosed role in Agatha All Along, following several dramatic and comedic roles in recent years. With roles in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Legion, The White Lotus, Ingrid Goes West, and Black Bear, Plaza has had an incredibly varied career, which should stand her in good stead for the tone of the MCU show, which appears both comedic and decidedly more horror-leaning at points of its story.
The Agatha All Along trailer appears to confirm Plaza is also set for a key role in the show, as the teaser has her character interact with Agatha during her time under Wanda's mind control and attempt to break her free of it. Most notably, Plaza's character is clearly able to see Agatha's own delusion and even take a place within it despite not believing in it, suggesting she has some considerable magical powers at her disposal - especially as she seems to order the witch to "crawl your way out."
Deadline and other sources have reported the actor's role in the MCU show is Rio Vidal, and though this hasn't been officially confirmed, it would align with Plaza's description of her character as a "warrior witch". This would also enable the character to have a main role in the series, working as part of Agatha's coven. That said, there is speculation Plaza could portray prominent Marvel Comics witch Morgan le Fay, or potentially even an original character created for the Phase 5 series.
Agatha All Along Supporting Characters
Asif Ali as Abilash Tandon: Actor and comedian Asif Ali, known for roles in Don't Worry Darling, Space Force, and The Mandalorian, debuted in WandaVision as Abilash Tandon. David Payton as John Collins: Known for appearing in Chicago PD, The Breaking Point, and Waves, David Payton debuted in WandaVision as John Collins, a resident of Westview who became Herb inside the Hex. Amos Glick as Dennis: Amos Glick, who portrayed a waiter in Agents of SHIELD season 7, episode 1, "The New Deal," also appeared as Dennis, a friendly mailman, in WandaVision. Brightman is known for his roles in No Vacancy, Alabama Snake, The Hate U Give, and Frank vs. God. Brightman is among several returning actors from WandaVision appearing in Agatha All Along.
Kate Forbes as Evanora Harkness: Kate Forbes debuted in WandaVision as Evanora Harkness, Agatha's mother and the leader of her original coven in 1693. It's unclear whether she'll return in Agatha All Along in flashbacks or in the present day, as her character was seemingly killed by Harkness in WandaVision. Forbes is best known for roles in The Longest Ride and A Dark Place.
Ali Ahn: Known for her roles in Orange is the New Black, The Diplomat, Supernatural, and Little Demon, Ali Ahn has been cast in Agatha All Along. Though her role isn't yet known, Ahn is expected to be portraying another witch in Agatha Harkness' coven. Ahn is in a relationship with William Jackson Harper, who debuted as Quaz in Phase 5's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Maria Dizzia: Maria Dizzia is best known for recurring roles in Orange is the New Black, 13 Reasons Why, and The Staircase, while on film she has appeared in Funny Pages, Vox Lux, and Captain Phillips, to name a few. Dizzia's role in Agath All Along hasn't yet been revealed, but, like Ali Ahn, she is expected to be portraying a witch and member of Agatha Harkness' coven.
Miles Gutierrez-Riley: With a recent starring role in The Wilds, Miles Gutierrez-Riley is a coveted new talent, and has been cast in Agatha All Along in an as-yet-undisclosed role. Speculation suggests he may be portraying Teddy Altman, a.k.a. Hulkling, Billy Kaplan's partner, though this hasn't been confirmed. Agatha All Along will mark Gutierrez-Riley's MCU debut.
Okwui Okpokwasili: Artist, performer, and choreographer Okwui Okpokwasili has been cast in an unknown role in Agatha All Along. Okpokwasili has previously appeared in projects including I Am Legend, Remote, Bronx Gothic, and Madeline's Madeline. She has received several awards for her work, and is even a MacArthur Fellow, making her a brilliant asset to the cast of the Agatha All Along show and the MCU as a whole.
