All 39 Movies & TV Shows Leaving Netflix This Month
Summary Netflix constantly updates its content lineup, so make sure to catch your favorite shows and movies before they leave in May.
Must-watch titles like Uncut Gems, Puss in Boots, and Where the Crawdads Sing will be bidding goodbye to Netflix this month.
Don't miss out on classic hits like The Hunger Games franchise, L.A. Confidential, and The Other Guys before they leave the platform.
Netflix has an ever-changing content library, meaning that while some great new titles arrive, some key shows and movies are leaving in May 2024. Since its inception, Netflix has positioned itself as the preeminent streaming service, and they were one of the first to delve into the world of original content, including the arrival of big hit films like Rebel Moon Part Two and the thriller series Ripley last month. However, the streamer also has a great reputation for hosting other content, and they are a one-stop-shop for everything from classic series to some of Hollywood's biggest films.
Netflix alters its lineup every month, and many shows and movies on Netflix have a limited time on the platform. April 2024 saw the platform losing some high-profile titles. April marked the final days for Netflix users to enjoy Oscar-nominated movies like Elvis and Joker, exciting blockbusters like Jurassic Park and Train to Busan, and cult hits like The Nice Guys. May 2024 will mark the end of some more high-profile titles on Netflix which include some content that is exclusive to the streaming platform.

Uncut Gems
While there are plenty of great Adam Sandler movies on Netflix, one of the actor’s best films will be leaving on May 8. Uncut Gems is an intense movie showing Sandler like never before. He plays a jewler with a gambling addiction as he comes into a rare and priceless item only for his toxic and reckless behavior to threaten to bring it all down.

Coming from Josh and Ben Safdie, Uncut Gems is a pulse-pounding character study of a man spiraling out of control while he is telling everyone around him that everything is under control. Sandler delivers his best performance which is funny, outrageous, and complex. It is the kind of movie that barely lets the audience breathe as they are dragged along on this anxiety-inducing journey with Sandler’s character making one bad decision after another.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
The Shrek franchise has had many ups and downs over the years, but perhaps the best entry into the franchise leaves Netflix on May 9. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is the second spinoff movie that follows Antonio Banderas’ swashbuckling feline on a solo adventure. This time around, Puss discovers that he has used up most of his nine lives and only has one left. This sends him on a desperate journey to find a magical relic that will give him immortality.

The movie is a huge step up from the first entry in every aspect, from the vibrant and thrilling action to the exciting and thoughtful story. Banderas continues to be iconic in the lead role while the cast features some exciting new additions, like Florence Pugh as the butt-kicking Goldilocks, John Mulaney as the hilariously villainous Jack Horner, and Wagner Moura as the mysterious Wolf who is tracking Puss.
Where The Crawdads Sing
An adaptation of one of the most popular books in recent years is leaving Netflix on May 11. From the novel of the same name by Delia Owens, Where the Crawdads Sing is a mystery drama starring Daisy Edgar-Jones as a young woman who raises herself in the marshlands of North Carolina, becoming a defiant and independent person. However, when one of the town’s prominent members is found dead, she becomes the prime suspect.
[W]as nominated for several awards thanks to the original song "Carolina" by Taylor Swift.
While Edgar-Jones was praised for her performance in the lead role, critical reaction to the movie was mixed as it was seen as struggling to bring the book’s complicated tone to life. However, due to the popularity of the book, Where the Crawdads Sing ended up being a solid box office hit and was nominated for several awards thanks to the original song "Carolina" by Taylor Swift.
The Hunger Games Franchise
The entire original Hunger Games franchise will be leaving Netflix on May 31, giving fans a limited time to rewatch the popular dystopian young adult series. Based on the novels by Suzanne Collins, the first movie introduced Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, a teen living in the oppressive society of Panem where young members of each district are forced to fight to the death in an annual competition.
The series grew in its stories, becoming an epic tale of rebellion against the corrupt people in power. In keeping with most young adult stories, there was also a compelling love triangle between Katniss, Gale, and Peeta. Lawrence became a star from these movies while the series also featured several other acclaimed actors such as Donald Sutherland, Woody Harrelson, Jeffrey Wright, Julianne Moore, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
L.A. Confidential
A Best Picture-nominated noir movie leaves Netflix on May 31. LA Confidential is yet another adaptation, this one coming from the period crime novel by James Ellroy. Set in 1950s Los Angeles, the story follows three very different police officers, one a celebrity detective, one an ambitious by-the-book cop, and one a brutal rule-breaker. They soon find themselves intersecting in a wider conspiracy where nothing is as simple as it seems.
From late director Curtis Hanson, the movie is a gripping mystery that unfolds with one exciting reveal after another. The cast is excellent with Guy Pearce, Russell Crowe, and several others stepping into the three lead roles, Danny DeVito stealing scenes as a seedy tabloid reporter, and Kim Bassinger earning an Oscar for her performance as a femme fatale at the center of the mystery.
The Other Guys
One of Will Ferrell’s funniest movies leaves Netflix on May 31. The Other Guys is a hilarious and clever send-up of the buddy cop genre with Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg perfectly playing off each other as the unlikely duo at the center. Ferrell plays a desk cop specializing in financial fraud cases while Wahlberg is a hotshot detective demoted due to a hilarious mishap. Together, they stumble upon an unexpected and vast conspiracy.
[T]he biggest laughs come from Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson as the city’s top cops who exit the movie in hilarious fashion.
Ferrell is his typical goofy self but with a fun twist as he is a more intelligent and bland character than he is used to playing with a funny running joke about women being inexplicably attracted to him. Wahlberg gave one of the first examples of his comedic skills, playing off his tough-guy persona. There are a lot of great supporting actors in the movie, including Michael Keaton and Eva Mendes, but the biggest laughs come from Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson as the city’s top cops who exit the movie in hilarious fashion.
