7 Best Armor Sets In The Witcher 3
Some of the best armor sets you can find in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt offer excellent protection and allows Geralt to last longer in fights. However, even stronger gear can give you extra damage on Geralt's attacks, benefits to stealth, or the skills to be an unstoppable berserker. Several of the most powerful sets in the game are worth collecting to give Geralt an armory of incredible defensive options.
Armor can be broken down into Body, Gloves, Pants, and Boot sections, all delivering a higher bonus if they are part of the same set. While you can mix between different armor parts from separate sets for some extra versatility, the best buffs typically come from a single collection. Some armor sets even gain extra benefits if worn together with the best sword weapons in The Witcher 3.
Other weapons, like Crossbows, can also be included as part of an armor set and give you a greater bonus if worn with the defensive gear the tool is paired to.

7 Feline Armor
Increase Enemy Bleed Chances
The Feline Armor is a light armor set that offers more offensive prowess than it does protection. You can get this armor by finding Julia Keynon's Diary in the house near Portside Gate in the Farcorners area. The first tier of this armor is found in Temple Isle, but remember that you will have to find several enhancements scattered around the world to strengthen this gear.
The Feline Armor is one of many "Witcher Armor" sets found throughout the game. To gain the full benefits of this armor, you need to find the steel and silver swords associated with it from Drahim Castle and Est Tayiar. You will also need the Crossbow diagrams connected to the Feline Armor, which you can discover in the area called Widow's Grotto within The Witcher 3.
In the base version of the game, Feline armor can be brought up to the Mastercrafted level. But if the Blood and Wine DLC expansion is installed, it can be improved again to Grandmaster. In this final form, the armor will offer 34% attack power, 20% piercing resistance, 25% slashing resistance, 25% monster damage defense, and 48% elemental resistance. It only lacks protection from bludgeoning, which is common for light armor.
6 Toussaint Knight’s Tourney Armor
Heavy Armor Means Greater Protection
Although both are from the Blood and Wine expansion, The Toussaint Knight’s Tourney Armor should not be confused with The Witcher 3’s Toussaint Relic Armor. That one is a quested relic, while this set is purely crafted instead. You can start finding the diagrams for this armor set and its weapons by traveling north of the Castel Ravello Vineyard, as you can see in the above video by YouTube creator Hargurpreet Singh.
Going to the location with this armor set's blueprints will pit you in a battle against several Archspore enemies. After defeating these monsters, you'll be able to get the diagrams for the armor set in The Witcher 3. The Tourney Armor cannot be made without Silk, Hardened Leather, Orichalcum Ingot, and Dark Steel Plate items used in the crafting recipe you discover.
This armor set is extremely heavy, with a 12.31 total Weight value that could make it cumbersome for Geralt to wear. However, the high physical damage resistance provided more than makes up for any slower movements. This armor also boasts 500 Vitality to increase your health and an improved 25% chance to deflect projectiles being used against you whenever you cast Quen.
5 Order of the Flaming Rose Armor
Craft A Stronger Version Of Magical Armor
Another great heavy armor set is found exclusively during the other DLC for The Witcher 3 named Heart of Stone. The Order of the Flaming Rose armor is worn or carried by many human enemies you encounter within this expansion. By defeating these enemies along your travels, you can harvest the magical variant of this armor set pretty easily as you go from quest to quest.
However, a more powerful version of this armor can be crafted when you find the blueprints for a non-magical version of the gear. The right diagram can be found by defeating bandits in the Sarrasin Grange to the northwest of your map. You will need Hardened Leather, Cured Draconid Leather, Cured Leather, Wire, and Dark Steel Plate items in your inventory to forge the stronger armor.
Both types of Order of the Flaming Rose armor have decent defenses, but the magical version does have less physical resistance than other armor of its weight class. The magical armor does empower the intensity of the ever-useful Igni spell, even if it doesn't defend you from piercing damage. On the other hand, the non-magical armor resists all weapon damage types and has a significant amount of elemental and burning resistance.
4 Zireael Armor
Prevent Geralt From Taking Bleed Damage
The Zireael Armor can be obtained in Novigrad by undertaking the contract "Beast in the Oxenfurt Forest" from a local notice board. For the side mission, Geralt must first find the client Hans of Cidaris, who will send the Witcher to face off against the Archgriffin, Opinicus, and a pack of wolves. The Zireael Armor is looted off the Opinicus’ corpse, and not as a direct reward from Hans’ contract in The Witcher 3.
Donning the Zireael armor gives you extra protection against particularly nasty damage types like Bleed. With 100% bleed resistance, this armor also has fair defenses against piercing, bludgeoning, and slashing weapons. Putting all the pieces of the armor together in a set will give you another 25% improved defense against any damage dealt by a monster during your various adventures or contracts.
3 Manticore Armor
Improve Offense With Better Damage
Those who prefer damage will want to obtain the Manticore Armor from one of the many Witcher schools offered in the game. This medium-weight armor boosts your critical hit chance, and wearing any three pieces of the set causes bombs to be tossed instantly. Geralt must complete the Grandmaster Manticore Gear scavenger hunt offered by Lazare Lafargue in Hauteville to gain the blueprints for this equipment.
The scavenger hunt will take you to a cave south of the Gelenser Farm area on your map. Inside this location, you can read an item called Merten's Prayer to understand the armor's diagram and know exactly how to make the gear.
As you can see in the above video by NorZZa, Manticore armor has a 25% critical hit chance, 19% piercing resistance, 24% slashing resistance, and 28% monster defense. The armor also grants five toxicity tolerances, making it easier to handle poisons. Although the armor lacks excellent protection, its bonuses to your damage make it an excellent tool to cut down regular enemies you encounter along your journey.
2 Viper Armor
Protect Yourself From Poisons
During the base game, the Viper school in The Witcher 3 only offers deadly swords that Geralt can wield. The Heart of Stone DLC expands the school to include armor and legendary versions of the weapons already being offered. Some of those new items include the Viper Armor set, which has plenty of benefits you'll want to equip onto Geralt as you reach later stages of the game.
One of the steps to getting the legendary blueprints for this set is to speak to Countess Mignole during the "Open Sesame!" quest in the main story. This NPC sells diagrams from the Viper school within this quest, so make sure to buy everything she has in stock. When you reach this same character in New Game+, she will now sell the legendary versions of the Viper weapons and armor to complete the set.
The original version of Viper armor includes 50% poison resistance, 30% piercing and slashing resistance, and 40% resistance against monsters and elements. It also has three slots to customize enhancements, giving you more room to strengthen different aspects of the gear. The legendary version offers even more base armor but at the cost of additional Weight that makes it slightly heavier.
1 Ursine Armor
Built Like A Brick Wall
While another armor set may have some kind of gimmick, the Ursine Armor from the Bear school is all about pure protection. Like the Feline armor, this set can be found in the base game, but a strong upgrade for it only exists in the Blood & Wine DLC. The crafting diagram for the full set can be found underneath rubble you can clear with the Aard spell within Castle Tuirseach, a place built into the face of Mount Aardeklove.
As you can see in the above video by YouTube creator Neon Knight, the Ursine Armor sports the best defenses in the game by a long shot. The Grandmaster level of Ursine armor features 34% adrenaline points, 48% resistance to monster damage, 40% slashing resistance, and 30% resistance to both bludgeoning and piercing. These stats are leagues above anything else Geralt can find from most equipment in The Witcher 3.
Wearing the full set of Ursine Armor also gives you a 35% chance to automatically recast the Quen spell whenever it is destroyed by enemy attacks. This magic puts up a defensive barrier around Geralt, basically giving him another layer of armor on top of the gear being used. The incredible ability to reapply defenses with no effort makes this armor set undoubtedly the best one you can get in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
