Though news has been rather scant on the highly-anticipated video game movie, the latest update confirms that filming has wrapped on the Minecraft movie. In a post made on Instagram, Jason Momoa announced the completion of principal photography with a photo alongside co-star Jack Black and several other crew members. Little else is known about the Jared Hess-directed movie, but things seem to be moving forward toward its April 2025 release date.

The Minecraft movie is set to release on April 4, 2025. This will come almost two years after the production of the movie begins. Production was slated to begin on August 7, 2023, in New Zealand, but the Minecraft movie has now set a tentative filming start date in spring 2024. This delay is due to the SAG/AFTRA strike which saw a majority of Hollywood productions halted as actors fought for fair wages. According to a post by Jason Momoa in April 2024, the Minecraft movie wrapped filming.
