Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches premiered on AMC in January 2023 as part of the Immortal Universe franchise, and shortly after the show premiered it was announced that Mayfair Witches season 2 would happen. The AMC series is based on the novel trilogy by author Anne Rice, and stars Alexandra Daddario as Rowan Fielding, a neurosurgeon who finds out she comes from a long line of witches haunted by an evil spirit. Daddario is joined in the main cast of Mayfair Witches by Tongayi Chirisa as Ciprien Grieve, Jack Huston as Lasher, and Harry Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair.

The first of Rice's Lives of the Mayfair Witches books, The Witching Hour, is almost 1000 pages long, and thus some changes had to be made to accommodate the show's streamlined eight-episode season. One of the most notable differences between the Mayfair Witches book and show is that novel characters Aaron and Michael were combined to make Ciprien. However, with Mayfair Witches renewed for season 2, the series will be able to expand on the story even more.

Several New Cast Members Are Added For Season 2

Nearly a year after the show was renewed for a second season, the latest news sees several additional names added to the cast of Mayfair Witches season 2. According to AMC, legendary character actor Ted Levine of Silence of the Lambs fame will appear in the sophomore outing as Julien Mayfair, Cortland’s father who haunts the family. Levine is joined by Thora Birch (Ghost World) as Gifford Mayfair, a loner who reads tarot, and Alyssa Jirrels (Fatal Attraction) plays Moira Mayfair, a mind-reader who blames the Mayfair family for the death of her sister.

AMC Quickly Renewed The Show

It only took about a month for AMC to decide the fate of the popular Anne Rice series, and Mayfair Witches was officially renewed for season 2 in February 2023. Though the news has been scant since then due in large part to the Hollywood strikes which impacted most of the year, the second season is still happening. It isn't clear where in the process the second season is, but the sophomore outing has already added new cast members.

The first season of Mayfair Witches showed some characters' deaths, primarily Rowan's cousin Tessa (Madison Wolfe), her mother Deirdre (Annabeth Gish), and her aunt Carlotta (Beth Grant). Unless these characters appear in flashbacks, it is unlikely they will return for the show's second season. Along with Alexandra Daddario's return as the powerful TV witch Rowan, several new cast members have been added including Ted Levine as Cortland's sinister father, Julien. Thora Birch will appear as Gifford Mayfair and Alyssa Jirrels is signed on to play the revenge-seeking Moira Mayfair.

In the Mayfair Witches season 1 finale, Rowan turns Cortland to stone before disappearing with her newborn child who is destined to become Lasher. While the first season of Mayfair Witches followed the plot of Rice's first Lives of the Mayfair Witches novel, The Witching Hour, Mayfair Witches season 2 will adapt the second book in the trilogy, Lasher, which features Lasher as one of the book's primary characters instead of Rowan. In an interview with TVLine, co-showrunner Esta Spalding shared that the new season will show Rowan and new adult Lasher, but with Rowan as "an active part of that story" compared to the book.
