With the sophomore season's debut coming closer and closer, the latest news sees a full trailer for Outer Range season 2 released by Amazon Prime Video. The teaser, narrated by Josh Brolin's Royal, expounds upon the mysteries of life and more specifically the mysterious void which appeared on the Abbott's land in season 1. Promising even more action than its predecessor, the trailer sees the world begin to unravel around the Abbotts as things around the void begin to affect the outside world. The trailer even hints at someone or something else coming through the rift.

The Sci-Fi Series Returns In May

Though the series first had its release year teased by Amazon Prime Video, followed by its release month, the exact release date was finally revealed in March 2024. Coming sooner than expected, Outer Range season 2 will now premiere on May 16.

Like season 1, the second season of Outer Range will premiere all 7 episodes on the same day.

Josh Brolin Leads The Mind-Bending Second Season

The cast of Outer Range season 2 will be more-or-less unchanged from the first season. There have been no recast announcements, nor have any of the current stars of the show expressed a desire to leave before the next chapter. The Outer Range season 2 cast will once again be led by Josh Brolin (Deadpool 2) as Royal Abbott, with Lili Taylor (Hemlock Grove) as his wife and Abbott family matriarch Cecilia.

Royal and Cecilia’s boys, Perry and Rhett, will be played once again by Tom Pelphrey and Lewis Pullman, respectively. Perry’s wife Rebecca will be played by Kristen Connolly, with missing daughter Amy once more portrayed by Olive Abercrombie. When it comes to secrets, nobody in Outer Range season 2 will have more explaining to do than Josh Brolin’s Royal.

The finale of the prior Outer Range season left many cliffhangers, and the plot of Outer Range season 2 promises to be just as mysterious and full of intrigue. The big reveal in season 1 was the nature of the void on the Abbotts' land, which transpires in a rift in time. What’s more, Royal reveals to Perry that he is a time traveler who arrived in the 1960s after falling into the void back in the 1800s. However, the tear in time isn’t a direct link to Royal’s home century, as evidenced by the mastodon that emerged earlier in the season.

The other big plot threads for Outer Range season 2 pertain to Amy and Autumn. Autumn is revealed to be a time-traveler from the future and, what’s more, she’s a future version of the missing Amy Abbott. This also ties into the mystery of Perry’s once-missing wife Rebecca, who’s shown up briefly and knows more about the situation than she’s letting on. She seems to have a connection to Amy, and the cult Autumn joins (or possibly even starts) in the future.
