Lindsay Lohan Confirms The Sequel

With nearly a year passing since the sequel was announced, the latest update sees Lindsay Lohan confirm that Freaky Friday 2 is still in the works (via Deadline). Presumably, the 2023 Hollywood strikes put a damper on the legacy sequel's development, but in a recent interview, Lohan made sure to reaffirm that it was still in the works. Though she couldn't reveal any specifics, she spoke for herself and co-star Jamie Lee Curtis when saying she was excited to return.

Freaky Friday 2 is confirmed, and was announced by Disney in May 2023. The greenlight announcement for the Freaky Friday sequel came two decades after the original in 2003, and it was revealed from the get-go that Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are expected to reprise their roles in the upcoming body-swap comedy. A script is reportedly in development by screenwriter Elyse Hollander.

Since the project was first announced in 2023, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis have both been signed on to reprise their roles as the mother/daughter duo of Tess and Anna Coleman. Both actors have been major proponents of the sequel, and it wouldn't be the same without their amazing chemistry.

It's unknown if any of the other original cast members from Freaky Friday will return for Freaky Friday 2. Chad Michael Murray and Mark Harmon, for example, both co-starred in the original, and there's no reason they couldn't return. There will also likely be some new additions, given that 20 years have passed in the real world, a time jump that will probably be reflected in the story too.

The Freaky Friday 2 plot hasn’t been revealed yet, but it’s known that it will be a sequel to Freaky Friday rather than a reboot or remake. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis will once again be playing Anna and Tess Coleman and previous comments from Curtis have also hinted that the mother-daughter pair would once again be swapping bodies. Given that twenty years have passed, it’s possible that Anna could be a mother herself in the Freaky Friday 2 plot, with a three-way swap between her, her child, and Tess kicking the body-swap antics of the Freaky Friday sequel to another level.
