Mogo the Living Planet was created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons in 1985, in a short story entitled "Mogo Doesn't Socialize" from Green Lantern #188. As his appearance suggests, Mogo is a sentient planet, and he's taken on many roles for the Green Lantern Corps. He's served as a sanctuary for Lanterns, at times becoming a base of operations. His primary purpose has been guiding Green Lantern rings to new hosts and allowing the Corps to expand rather than dwindle. Over the years, Mogo has become invaluable to the Green Lanterns, so his Red Lantern conversion is a devastating loss for them.

Hal and John manage to defeat him, but in his final moments, Thaaros channels his rage into Mogo and turns the planet into an unstoppable Red Lantern. Mogo now lays waste to every planet in his way, and only his Green Lantern teammates can oppose him.
