Metaphor: ReFantazio - All Status Ailments & How To Cure Them

Metaphor: ReFantazio features a familiar combat system that's made a bit more complicated by myriad status ailments, each with unique effects and cures. Not only do these ailments hinder your performance in battle, but depending on the type, their effects may linger when the fight ends. This puts you at a clear disadvantage moving forward, so you'll need to understand how different ailments work and what you can do to cure them.

Metaphor: ReFantazio takes pages from SMT and Persona, allowing you to inflict or incur status ailments on top of damage and saddling you or your opponents with debuffs to overcome in combat. Whether physical or mental, the effects of ailments can cause severe decreases in any individual status or even push party members to attack one another. Finding the right cure is essential to keep your team in good health. Although the game features handy tutorials on ailments and treatments, we've put together a reference guide for quick and easy answers.

All Status Ailments & What They Do

Mental VS. Physical

Status ailments can be broken down into two distinct types: physical and mental. With a grand total of 12 unique ailments, both types cause debuffs and otherwise, tricky effects to deal with during combat, but critical differences set the two categories apart.

Related Every Archetype In Metaphor: ReFantanzio Explained Metaphor: ReFantazio uses Archetypes instead of Personas to give the player unique abilities, but there are a lot of differences between the two.

According to TheGamer, mental ailments will subside once the battle concludes, eliminating the need to find a cure afterward. However, ailments of this kind can make it exceptionally difficult to control party members during combat, putting your team at risk. These include the following:

Anxiety

Charm

Daze

Forget

Rage

Sleep

Conversely, physical ailments will remain in effect even after the fight ends. This can spell bad news for your party going into combat without treatment. You'll want to prioritize curing any of the following physical ailments affecting team members:

Burn

Frostbite

Hex

Malady

Paralysis

Poison

Status ailments shouldn't be taken lightly on your Metaphor: Refantazio playthrough. While you may be able to tough out a battle facing debuffs and other effects, it's in your best interest to cure your party members when possible, as each can prove deadly. Luckily, you'll have a couple of options to heal up.

How To Cure All Status Ailments

Items & The Healer Archetype

Close

You'll want to consider healing items and the Healer character Archetype to cure status ailments. Using items is fairly intuitive here, with a long list to choose from, depending on the ailment you're dealing with. Game8 notes that most items can be purchased from St. Fermis Church or the General Store, but be on the lookout for other vendors as well.

Various cooked dishes may also serve as cures for status ailments. Consider the side effects of your meals to decide which to use and when.

Apart from items, Channeling Archetypes to eliminate ailments works in much the same way as using Persona 3: Reload's Personas. The Healer Archetype's Patra skill allows you to heal status ailments of any kind, though this can only be used on one party member at a time.
