The Court Of Thorns & Roses Show Needs To Include 2 Characters The Books Don't (To Make Their Ending Matter)
The A Court Of Thorns & Roses Hulu series needs to include more of these two characters that the book did not to truly make their endings matter. Updates on the Court Of Thorns & Roses series are minimal and what audiences do know is a bit bleak, as the show's original showrunner has left the project with few updates arriving since. That being said, the series is still a pertinent one not only due to the book's popularity on BookTok, but also because of the possibilities it presents as an adaptation.
Hulu has the opportunity to make many changes in the A Court Of Thorns & Roses TV show, amplifying the strong story from the original books in new ways. Unexplored plotlines can be shown, underutilized characters can be given new arcs, and backstories can be explored more fully. That last point is especially necessary for Rhysand, as many aspects of his past remain a mystery. To solve this, the Hulu series needs to feature two characters whose stories helped shape Rhysand's arc in A Court Of Thorns & Roses: his mother and sister.

Hulu's Court Of Thorns & Roses Series Needs To Feature Rhys' Mother And Sister
Rhys' Mother And Sister Died Before The Events Of The Series
Close
Hulu's A Court Of Thorns & Roses series needs to feature Rhysand's mother and sister as their story is barely explored in the books. The two women are largely mentioned in A Court Of Mist & Fury. In that book, Rhysand explains how, while on their way to visit him in Illyria, Tamlin and his family had found and killed the two due to Tamlin betraying their location to his father. This led to the murder of Tamlin's family by Rhysand and his father, allowing the book to highlight Tamlin and Rhysand's rivalry by exploring its origins.
Rhysand's sister is never truly mentioned after that point, though his mother is credited with making Feyre's many gowns in A Court Of Frost & Starlight. Their deaths, however, largely shaped Rhysand's outlook and actions, as he not only wished to rule but change Illyria's many misogynistic traditions due to his mother's strength of character. That strength of character as well as other pertinent details would make their fates more devastating to see if the A Court Of Thorns & Roses series features them more prominently.

Featuring Rhysand's mother and sister would make their fates more devastating in the A Court Of Thorns & Roses series as audiences would get more insight into them and their love for Rhysand, expanding more on his character arc and choices. The story of Rhysand's mother and sister is largely overlooked in A Court Of Thorns & Roses, but the series can still feature their roles in Rhys' life through flashbacks. Those flashbacks could add more to both their originally minimized characterizations and Rhysand's backstory, which also did not get thoroughly explored in the books.
Those memories could also give audiences insight into Rhysand's approach to courting Feyre, as he could remember his mother's advice or her beliefs on what matehood could be.
Seeing his memories of them during the three-month break between Under The Mountain and Feyre's arrival could begin the process of showcasing Rhysand's true personality and drive home his belief that everything he loves gets taken from him. Those memories could also give audiences insight into Rhysand's approach to courting Feyre, as he could remember his mother's advice or her beliefs on what matehood could be. Witnessing Rhysand's bond with them would then amplify the devastation of their deaths and allow the A Court Of Thorns & Roses series to add more background to one of its main character's motives.
