This Quirky Indie Platformer Comes To PS5 & Xbox This Month & You Should Totally Check It Out

Quirky indie platformer, Squirrel with a Gun, heads to Xbox and PS5 this month, and it's well worth checking out if you love the weird and wonderful. The premise is equal parts ridiculous and intriguing, but it's hard to imagine there is much substance beyond the cartoonish idea of a squirrel running around town blasting enemies away with a shotgun or sniper. While that might be true to some extent, Squirrel with a Gun is absolutely worth a quick playthrough.

This kooky shoot-em-up platformer was released earlier this year on PC and plays a lot like Untitled Goose Game or Goat Simulator. It's set to debut on consoles later this month, but faced some technical issues upon launch on Steam and Epic. The PC version has been quite buggy, but if these issues are resolved on console, it's a must-play if you're looking for laugh-out-loud gameplay. Here's what to know about Squirrel With A Gun before it comes to consoles.

When Squirrel With A Gun Releases On Consoles

Set Your Sights On Squirrel With A Gun's PS5 and Xbox Launch

Developed by Dee Dee Creations and produced by Maximum Entertainment, Squirrel with a Gun was released on PC in August of this year. The loony sandbox shooter is set to launch on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on October 15, giving console players a chance to finally dive in and start collecting those golden acorns while using a rocket launcher to send your squirrel avatar flying across the map. Priced at $20, players can also get a small discount if they pre-order on Xbox or if they are a PS Plus member and pre-order before launch.

The person in charge of marketing for Squirrel with a Gun hit a stroke of genius when they decided to start live-streaming actual squirrels running around in someone's backyard with a bunch of "actual" toy guns. The stream, seen on the Squirrel With A Gun website, is hilarious and will drive your cat crazy, much like the game itself.

Why Squirrel With A Gun Should Be Better On Consoles

Has Dee Dee Creations Fixed The Bugs From The Original Launch?

Unfortunately, the original release of Squirrel with a Gun for PC was fraught with technical bugs, such as freezing screens, crashes, and long loading times. For a short sandbox shooter/platformer with not much going for it beyond the obvious quirks, bugs are going to obliterate player interest. The devs are likely to fix these bugs before the console launch based on how responsive they've been since launch. The team behind this passion project is small, but it looks like updates will be coming to address some of the technical hiccups.

Ultimately, Squirrel with a Gun is worth checking out on consoles when it releases later this month for the zany fun. As long as the game is more polished than its PC predecessor, it could well become the next Goat Simulator. It's hoped developers have taken the PC feedback into account and addressed those issues.
