WoW: 10 Coolest New Hunter Pet Models In The War Within

Creatures of Azeroth and beyond are always what players are looking for, and World of Warcraft: The War Within has ensured that the new zone, Khaz Algar, is teeming with new kinds of life. Many new pet models around Khaz Algar have been spotted as mounts and companion pets, meaning that hunters aren't the only ones who get to enjoy the new wildlife. From the mountains of the Isle of Dorn to the deepest burrows of Azj-Kahet, new pet models have covered a wide range of bases from reptiles, fish, new beasts, and even a few flying friends that look easier to tame than they are.

Even though there are numerous additional pet models, a select few of them have become the favorite of many players with their looks and the occasional stat bonuses. Although many pets are just cosmetic, the intricacies of pet models will always be vital in making a good hunter build that players enjoy.

10 Stormrook

One of the newest additions to the pet models, a stormrook named Aradan has recently become available after a patch in Season 1 of The War Within. Aradan is currently the only stormrook available, but he is a direct match for the Algarian Stormrook mount that players received with the Heroic edition of the expansion pack. There are five different versions of the pet available, with different parts of its model being changed to reflect some of the customizations that players can make for their mounts.

Aradan is considered a Spirit Beast and is only tameable by players who have the Beast Mastery specialization, but it can be tamed multiple times, so players can have dual stormrooks by their side for their adventures. Found within the Dornogal dungeon, The Rookery, hunters who are after this pet have their work cut out for them.

9 Lynx

In the hills of Hallowfall, the Arathi have devoted themselves to the care of lynxes across the map. Players who are in search of a new cuddly cat have a plethora of options, as one of the newest models for The War Within is a selection of lynxes. With variants in color and armor, hunters can find these pets in the Hallowfall dungeon, the Priory of Sacred Flame, or within the open world.

Players looking for a unique version of the Lynx can find a rare spawn in the corner of Hallowfall named Lytfang the Lost, an armored lynx who has lost his way, a nearly identical match to the Dauntless Imperial Lynx mount. The red lynx model can be found near Lytfang and is another match for an Arathi mount, with the Vermillion Imperial Lynx being the same model just lacking a saddle.

8 Swarmites

The prevalence of bugs and other creepy crawlers is integral to the storytelling for The War Within's campaign across Khaz Algar, but these tameable swarmites are a newer addition to the family of beetles and blood beasts. Hunters hoping to tame one of these new eerie but beautiful flying ticks should know that a special skill learned from the Blood-Soaked Tome of Dark Whispers is required, but is easily available from the normal mode or higher Uldir raid.

There are several variations of these swarmites, with four different colors and three distinctive variations in head and tail shape. One of the purple variants is a direct match for the Swarmite Skyhunter War Within mount that is available from the Khaz Algar Glyph Hunters achievement. Some versions of this new flying tick include a glowing proboscis that matches the design.

7 Undercrawlers

Although spiders have been a prevalent part of the hunter pet model history, they've seen an incredibly detailed remodel in The War Within. The inhabitants of Khaz Algar aren't just spiders, as this new undercrawler model has an unusual appearance. There are four base colors, including green, orange, yellow, and a shadowed version, but each color has an additional glow variant. These can be found across all three zones, and many of them have matching available mounts.

These undercrawlers boast barbed mandibles and legs and stringers on their abdomens, making them one of the most detailed spider pets that have been released. Players looking to get their hands on a shadowed undercrawler, Xishorr, can find the spider in the Pillar-nest Xesh in Azj-Kahet, alongside the other spider variants. Several undercrawler mounts are available as renown unlocks from the Severed Threads and require Kej to buy.

6 Hermit Crabs

This is a fun new addition to the crab pet family, as the new hermit crab pet model shares many of the same colors as other crab designs. There are tons of new hermit crab designs, making them one of the most expansive new pet models, as twenty different models are found on the Isle of Dorn. There are eight possible shell patterns now, including many different colored shell patterns.

Although there are not any mounts that match this pet, they are easily available and have companion pets that can be enjoyed by any player. These are some of the first pets within Khaz Algar that players can come across, as they are scattered around beaches and coves along the initial areas of the Isle of Dorn. There are around seven different companion pets that match the tameable hermit crabs.

5 Dustmoths

Moths and butterflies have been a welcome addition to the catalog of tameable pets, but between the two new moth family additions, Dustmoths present a beautiful addition to the family. There are five different variants available across Khaz Algar, but a new inclusion has also been introduced in Zaralek Cavern. It is nice to see some of the other areas get attention in the new WoW expansion pack, with a sparkly blue Dust Moth with a purple body able to be found floating around the caverns.

If players are looking to match their pets to some of the older companion pets, a sparkly red dustmoth is also tameable in Zaralek Cavern now, which matches the Undermoth companion pet. This very sparkly addition to the moth family makes sense as the light is an important resource for all the current campaign characters.

4 Shalehorn

While Blizzard has not presented players with any additional unicorns, the new Shalehorns are the closest thing to them. With a corkscrew horn, these stags come in several different variants and seem to be heavy hitters when encountered in the open world. The six different designs of the Shalehorns are found in Hallowfall and the Isle of Dorn, making the beasts easy to find.

One of the most popular versions of the Shalehorn model is the Fungal version that is found on the rare beast, Plaguehart. This is one of the first max-level beasts that players may come across, as Plaguehart sits in the center of a fungal forest in the Isle of Dorn.

3 Cinderbees

One of the most drastic additions to any existing pet family is the Cinderbee, as these fiery bees keep close guard over the Cinderwold areas on the Isle of Dorn. There are an assortment of tameable variants that hunters can tame, with all of them being outside in the open world. The biggest difference between the variants is the use of either yellow or red accents on the body and their antennae shapes.

The most interesting of these new fiery bees is the rare elite spawn Tephratennae, a pale white bee with burning appendages, red wings, and long antennae. This is one of the most creative additions to the wasp family, as the previous bees were simply just bees.

2 Cloudrooks

These are a wispy addition to the elusive Feathermane family, a special class of tenacity pets that require the Tome of Hybrid Beasts to be tamed. Much like the stormrooks, these meteorological beasts have three different variants that are found in a select area of the Isle of Dorn high among the cliffs. There are three variants of the Cloudrooks that are difficult to tell the difference between, but they are stunning additions nonetheless.

The Docile Coudrooks are an accessible alternative for players who prefer specializations outside of Beast Mastery, as they are not classified under the Exotic Beast category. This airy beauty is the perfect addition to any pet collector's stable.

1 Skippers

The Skippers are arguably one of the cutest creatures in The War Within, and they come in five bright colors. They have unique additions to their designs, as some of them have an action and make a noise when clicked. One of the blue versions of the Skippers is named King Splash and is a rare spawn that can try using "splash," but it isn't very successful.

This unique addition of a flopping catfish has drawn a lot of attention and praise, as the cute designs are empowered by a bit of a silly mechanic. This one nod to the Pokémon legend, Magikarp, has won over this pet for many players. Even though King Splash's moves might not be effective in World of Warcraft: The War Within, the Skipper pet model is very effective.
