Parker Young's 10 Best Movies & TV Shows Ranked

Parker Young's 10 Best Movies & TV Shows Ranked

Parker Young is a television and movie actor who has had a strong career almost the entire time he's been working, and it's clear that he is not looking to slow down his output anytime soon. Born on August 16, 1988, Young began his professional acting career in 2008 when he appeared in both an episode of Days of Our Lives as an unnamed delivery man and then Gingerbread Man 2: Passion of the Crust as Cornelius Entemann, the unfortunate fourth victim in the schlocky horror movie about a sentient gingerbread cookie.

After that start, Young quickly moved into more significant roles in more notable productions, primarily in television, with a few movies thrown in as well. His breakout came quite quickly, however, when he was cast as Ryan Shay in the hit series, Suburgatory. This recurring role led to several other main and supporting cast parts in some popular TV shows. Even when these series didn't end up lasting long, they often received good reviews with a lot of the praise going towards Young. It's only a matter of time before Young strikes real gold with one of his parts.

Parker Young appears as the recurring guest, Miles, in season 2. Miles meets Delilah Dixon (Stephanie Szostak) at a bar. The two develop a whirlwind romance that sees Miles even calling Delilah on the day of her late husband's death. However, their ten-year age gap ends up being a sticking point between the pair, and it's exacerbated when an embarrassed Miles introduces himself to others as Delilah's trainer. It's a small role, but Young plays the charming, but secretly egotistical Miles very well.

9 Animal (2014)

Jeff

Animal is a 2014 horror thriller and a creature feature that follows a group of friends who decide to go hiking together one afternoon in a secluded forest. During their hike, they encounter a horrifying monster that stalks and eats them, forcing them into a small cabin where they have to figure out how to get away before the monster breaks in.

Parker Young plays Jeff, one of the hikers who is the first to be killed by the monster, alerting everyone else to its presence. Despite dying early in the film, he plays an important part later in the movie after it's revealed he and a male member of the group were having an affair, much to Jeff's girlfriend's confusion. Animal is a who's who of 2000s TV stars, starring Elizabeth Gillies of Victorious as Mandy, Keke Palmer of True Jackson, VP as Alissa, and Jeremy Sumpter of the cast of Friday Night Lights as Matt.

8 Twenties (2020-2021)

Zach (11 Episodes, 2020-2021)

Twenties, a single-camera comedy show from Lena Waithe, is a semi-autobiographical series that stars Hattie (Jonica Gibbs), a lesbian black woman in her twenties who's trying to make it as a screenwriter in Hollywood. She's joined by her best friends, Marie (Christina Elmore) and Nia (Gabrielle Graham). It's a smartly written and bitingly funny TV series that has as much to say about the specific obstacles a lesbian black woman faces in Hollywood as it does about the general anxieties that come with growing up.

Parker Young plays the recurring character Zach in the series. Zach is just about the only white male character in the series, and he serves as Marie's boss. It's a fish-out-of-water performance and one that's a comment on the classic "token black" character stereotype. Young is right at home with the humor of the series and though the character may not always fit in, Parker definitely does.

Ranger Campbell (Parker Young) is a character new to 9-1-1: Lone Star in season 5. Though season 5 is set to be the final one for 9-1-1: Lone Star, Campbell is set to be a major part of the show, with showrunner Rashad Raisani even hoping that the character could be a part of a spinoff series (via TVLine). A Texas Ranger, Campbell is Carlos Reyes' (Rafael Silva) new partner and the two quickly discover that they complement one another very well.

It's an explosive and extremely fun performance by Young, who gets to play the swaggering cop type and feels perfectly suited to the role. His chemistry with Silva also means that every scene they share is one worth watching. What will happen with Ranger Campbell post-9-1-1: Lone Star is not certain, but if Young is still willing to play the character, he could prove to be a lasting part for the actor.

6 Enlisted (2014)

Private Randy Hill (13 Episodes, 2014)

In Enlisted, a workplace comedy that takes place on a military base, three brothers who are all members of the U.S. Army find themselves assigned to Fort McGee, Florida. Staff Sergeant Pete Hill (Geoff Stults), Corporal Derrick Hill (Chris Lowell), and Randy Hill (Parker Young) could not be more different than one another, but they are forced to rebuild their brotherly bonds as they work to get a misfit platoon up to fighting shape.

Enlisted was pulled from Fox's schedule after the ninth episode aired, and the remaining four episodes only became available later on Hulu.

Randy is the most unsure of his place in the military out of all his brothers, but he's also the most technically skilled, making for a funny dynamic between what he wants to do and what he's good at. The show was created by Kevin Biegel, who also worked on Scrubs and created Cougar Town, and Enlisted has the similar touching but madcap energy of those two series, elevated by Young's committed performance.

5 Imposters (2017-2018)

Richard Evans (20 Episodes, 2017-2018)

Imposters "Imposters" is a dark comedy that follows Maddie, a con artist who charms her targets into falling in love with her and then disappears with their wealth. The twist? Her latest victims team up to track her down, embarking on an adventurous quest for revenge. As they delve deeper, they uncover the complexity of Maddie's world and the mastermind behind her operations. The series is a blend of suspense, romance, and humor, exploring themes of identity, deception, and the search for genuine connection. Release Date February 7, 2017 Seasons 2 Creator(s) Paul Adelstein , Adam Brooks

In Imposters, Inbar Lavi stars as Maddie Johnson, a con artist who works with two other criminals, Max (Brian Benben) and Sally (Katherine LaNasa), for the mysterious, "The Doctor" (Ray Proscia), who has multiple teams working for him. Parker Young co-stars as Richard Evans, one of Maddie's former victims who fell hard for her during the con. He teams up with some other victims to track her down, put a stop to her cons, and possibly rekindle their romantic connection.

Imposters only lasted two seasons, but while it was on, it was an excellent blend of slapstick comedy, smart writing, clever twists, and some impressive performances by the ensemble cast, not least of which was Young's.

Imposters only lasted two seasons, but while it was on, it was an excellent blend of slapstick comedy, smart writing, clever twists, and some impressive performances by the ensemble cast, not least of which was Young's. His performance as a heartbroken man who's just as annoyed for being duped as he is being dumped shows some impressive emotional range and allows him to play all sides of the emotional spectrum.

Parker Young appears in season 4 of Arrow as Alex Davis, a political strategist who worked for Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and dated Oliver's half-sister, Thea (Willa Holland). After Oliver dropped out of the race, Alex ended up joining the office of the winning mayor, Ruvé Adams (Janet Kidder, who was secretly one of the leaders of the terrorist organization H.I.V.E. While working in the office, Alex was slowly brainwashed with suggestion pills until he was a loyal servant to H.I.V.E.

Alex is a smart and hardworking ally to Oliver, and though he's slightly smarmy, Young plays it so the character feels more charming than slimy. This characterization makes his switch to being evil much more believable, so when it's revealed that he's been brainwashed, it comes as a surprise. Even when he's in the depths of being an evil character, Young gives Alex enough pathos that it's truly upsetting when he dies.

3 The Image Of You (2024)

Nick

The Image of You The Image of You is a drama film that follows the story of a successful businesswoman, played by Meredith Edwards, who begins to question her identity and relationships after being confronted with a mysterious stranger who claims to be her exact duplicate. Director Jeff Fisher Release Date May 10, 2024 Cast Nestor Carbonell , Mira Sorvino , Sasha Pieterse , Parker Young , Rebekah Graf , Ogy Durham , Michele Nordin , Alireza Mirmontazeri Runtime 90 Minutes

In The Image of You, Anne and Zoe (both played by Sasha Pieterse) are identical twins who are intensely bonded as sisters. Despite never letting anything come between them before, when Anna falls for a charismatic stockbroker named Nick (Parker Young), Zoe begins digging into his past to uncover why she has such a bad feeling about him.

This is one of Young's few movie roles and also one of his few leading-man performances. Usually playing the affable, comedic character, Nick presents a much darker and more dramatic type of role for Young. While the premise and style of The Image of You get a bit ridiculous as it plays into noir elements, Young leans into those sillier aspects, matching his performance to the true tone of the movie. It's a performance that elevates everyone else around him and turns what could have failed into something enjoyable.

Parker Young's first major role came in Suburgatory in 2011, when he appeared as Ryan Shay, a recurring character in the ABC sitcom. Before Jane Levy became known for her horror roles, she starred in Suburgatory as Tessa Altman. Tessa and her father, George (Jeremy Sisto), have moved from New York City to the suburbs and both the city-inclined characters have to learn how to navigate the upper-middle-class world and politics of modern suburbia.

Ryan is the star football player of the local high school team and though he's the most popular person at school, brains-wise, he's lacking. Though he at first seems as superficial as everyone else in town, he reveals some hidden depths after he begins dating Tessa in season 2. It's a very funny performance from Young, who plays the empty-headed jock character perfectly, but as he slowly reveals more sides of himself, Young showcases more subtle acting and emotions.

1 United States Of Al (2021-2022)

Riley Dugan (35 Episodes, 2021-2022)

Cast Parker Young , Adhir Kalyan , Dean Norris , Elizabeth Alderfer , Farrah Mackenzie , Kelli Goss Release Date April 1, 2021 Seasons 2

Parker Young stars as Riley Dugan in United States of Al, a CBS sitcom that ran for two seasons and depicts the relationship between Riley, a Marine veteran who's just returned from Afghanistan, and Awalmir "Al" Karimi (Adhir Kalyan), an interpreter from Afghanistan. The friends move back to Columbus, Ohio and both struggle to deal with their time spent in a combat zone and each has to relearn how to behave in a civilian world.

Riley is a kind, ambitious individual who is also getting a divorce at the beginning of the series, shaking his once high confidence, and forcing him to lean on his friend Al more than he ever would have expected him to. It's Young's biggest performance, and the first of his TV roles to be the center of the show. While the series did not end up working for a myriad of reasons, his performance was never in doubt, and Parker Young made it perfectly clear he has the charisma and comic timing to lead a TV show.
