Rumours Stars Reveal Cate Blanchett Was The Mother Of The Set

Rumours follows the leaders of the world's wealthiest democracies as they gather for the annual G7 summit to draft a provisional statement regarding a global crisis. Things go completely awry as the world plummets into uncertainty and what they think could be an apocalypse. Part comedy, part suspense, part satire, and part horror, this movie checks a lot of boxes for genre fans.

The film stars Rolando Revello, Roy Dupuis, and Nikki Amuka-Bird as three of the government officials, alongside the legendary Cate Blanchett. All three have extensive acting careers, with Amuka-Bird most well-known in the United States for her role in films like Knock at the Cabin and Old. Rumours comes to theaters on October 18.

Screen Rant interviewed Rolando Revello, Roy Dupuis, and Nikki Amuka-Bird to talk about their new film, Rumours. They revealed what it was that drew them to want to be a part of the movie. They also discussed working with Cate Blanchett and confessed that she was like the mother on set.

The Script & The Chance To Work With Cate Blanchett Caused Much Of The Cast To Sign On To Rumours

"I think that if someone calls you and asks you if you want to shoot a movie with this cast, and this screenplay, you are crazy if you don't do it."

Screen Rant: What drew you to want to be a part of Rumours?

Nikki Amuka-Bird: I had never read anything like it. I think probably around me turning over the page and seeing a giant brain in the forest, I was like, okay, where do I sign up? I knew that Cate and Roy were attached, and I was really excited to work with them. I then got to know Guy Madden's work. I actually didn't know Guy's work and got to meet with him and find out how experimental and brave and imaginative he is. And the brothers, Galen and Evan. It just seemed like an opportunity to completely jump into the deep end headfirst. That's why I signed up. Rolando Revello: I think that if someone calls you and asks you if you want to shoot a movie with this cast, and this screenplay, you are crazy if you don't do it. For me, it's a miracle. Roy Dupuis: Yeah, I totally agree. This is a script that I don't see a lot of actors refusing. For my part, I already had worked three days with Guy Madden and Evan and Galen, which were the three best days of shooting in my life. But that was another story, completely different from what we did here. What I prefer of a script is to be surprised, to be positively surprised. And that was it. I mean, it's not very surprising to be surprised from a script coming by Guy Madden, but I was still surprised.

Cate Blanchett Was The Natural Mother On The Set Of Rumours

"She was actually also the host country, so it fell in line with that."

Screen Rant: What was it like working with Cate Blanchett?

Roy Dupuis: Well, the fact that we were always the seven of us together shooting at night created that family, I'd say. And it was obvious that Cate was the mother. She was actually also the host country, so it fell in line with that. But she was kind of the mother of the family from my point of view. Nikki Amuka-Bird: Totally. And actually, she had her family join the set a lot. It was really impressive to see how she was literally juggling those roles of acting in the movie and being a mom. She's got incredible stamina, and she's also incredibly brave. I think it really helped, as Roy says, we're all in it together, and the more you can take chances and feel vulnerable in front of each other and OK to take chances and fall flat on your face. I think Cate was the first one to keep trying different things and not being afraid to look foolish. That was really liberating. Rolando Revello: Cate, for me, is one of the greatest presence of my life because she is so kind and sweet. All the cast, except Roy, because the worst I've heard. Roy Dupuis: Sorry. It's a Canadian thing. We're known to be really bad and not polite.
