Dennis' Sarcoidosis Scare In No Good Deed Explained

Dennis' Sarcoidosis Scare In No Good Deed Explained

Warning! Spoilers for Netflix's No Good Deed ahead!

Dennis was sure that he had sarcoidosis in No Good Deed, but everything worked out in the end. The Netflix black comedy follows three couples and their various secrets as they attempt to purchase a house in Los Feliz, one of which is Dennis and Carla (O-T Fagbenle and Teyonah Parris). These two are recently married and have a baby on the way, and Dennis especially thinks that Paul and Lydia Morgan's (Ray Romano and Lisa Kudrow) house would be the perfect place to raise him. However, No Good Deed sees Dennis become concerned that he won't live long enough to watch this happen.

Dennis was raised by a single mother, Denise, with whom he maintained a frustratingly close relationship during his marriage to Carla. It even seemed for a time that Denise would help the couple purchase the Morgan house and move in with them. However, things fell apart when Dennis saw a doctor and learned that his deceased father's history of sarcoidosis, combined with some warning signs within his own health, could mean trouble. This potential diagnosis led to a big secret being uncovered in the ending of No Good Deed, but what did all this mean?

What Is Sarcoidosis & Why Dennis Thinks He Has It In No Good Deed

Dennis Was Convinced He Was Dying In No Good Deed

According to the Mayo Clinic, sarcoidosis is "a disease characterized by the growth of tiny collections of inflammatory cells (granulomas) in any part of your body." These cells develop most commonly in the lungs and lymph nodes, and though the disease is typically very manageable, it can lead to death in rare cases. Dennis' father had sarcoidosis and died from the condition, leaving Denise to raise their son alone.

In No Good Deed, Dennis went to the doctor and had some blood work done, and it was discovered that he had elevated calcium levels. While this wouldn't necessarily be a cause for concern by itself, Dennis' family history of sarcoidosis raised some alarm bells. He scheduled a CT scan, but this was all essentially for nothing.

No Good Deed is available to stream on Netflix.

Was Dennis Actually Diagnosed With Sarcoidosis?

Dennis' Mother Was Keeping A big Secret

No Good Deed never reveals the results of Dennis' CT scan, but other details revealed by the Netflix series' ending imply that he wasn't diagnosed with sarcoidosis. The only reason this disease was a concern in the first place was because Dennis' father had died from it. However, Denise revealed that her late husband hadn't actually been Dennis' biological father. This meant that he couldn't possibly have inherited sarcoidosis from the man.

The ending of No Good Deed saw a happy and healthy Dennis eager to move to Los Feliz (though not into the Morgan house).

There is often a genetic component involved with sarcoidosis, but it can also be diagnosed in individuals with no family history. Still, given Dennis' lack of other symptoms aside from elevated calcium levels, it's doubtful that he would have been diagnosed. The ending of No Good Deed saw a happy and healthy Dennis eager to move to Los Feliz (though not into the Morgan house), so it's assumed that his sarcoidosis scare came to nothing—aside from his discovering the truth about his father.
