Genshin Impact: How To Beat Local Legend Rilai (Earn 3 Achievements)
To beat the Local Legend Rilai in Genshin Impact’s Natlan region, you will need to find its specific location and then choose a proper team comp to face them since the opponent can be a difficult one to topple. Local Legends were first introduced with Fontaine; they are characterized by stronger enemies found in predetermined areas of the map. Not only do they have larger HP bars when compared to regular overworld opponents, but they also have improved skill sets. There are several Local Legends in Natlan in Genshin Impact, and more are occasionally added with map extensions.
Local Legends tend to be variations of regular enemies found in each region. In Fontaine, for instance, Ninianne of the Lake is a variation of a Tainted Water-Splitting Phantasm. The Local Legend Rilai, on the other hand, is a variation of an Iktomisaurus Warrior: Cryocrystal Cannon, a form of Sauroform Tribal Warriors, though one that is tougher to beat and that has an enhanced tool kit. In addition to the sense of accomplishment and materials that you can get, beating the Local Legend Rilai can grant you three Achievements, which in turn also reward you with Primogems in Genshin Impact.
Where To Find Local Legend Rilai's Location
The Opponent Is Found Near The Masters Of The Night-Wind
To challenge the Local Legend, you will first need to find Rilai’s location in Natlan. Luckily, this should not be too much trouble. The Local Legend Rilai is located southwest of the Masters of the Night-Wind tribe. The best way of reaching the opponent is to progress to the aforementioned tribe’s main Teleport Waypoint and then head west toward the other Teleport Waypoint just on the outside of the tall wall that surrounds the Masters of the Night-Wind.
Because the area is fairly high to reach, I’d recommend you to reach the outer wall closest to the Teleport Waypoint you want to indwell a Qucusaur in Genshin Impact. Nearby are Phlogiston Wind Tunnels that can help you get up high without burning through your Phlogiston reserves.
Once you reach the Teleport Waypoint, don’t forget to exit the Saurian indwelling form. From there, you’ll want to proceed north, beyond the abandoned tent next to the Teleport Waypoint. At this point, you will be able to see Rilai’s location from a distance. The Local Legend is peacefully playing a flute next to a stone altar. At this point, you can approach them to start the battle with the Local Legend Rilai, provided that you have already set up a proper team comp in Genshin Impact.
How To Beat Local Legend Rilai
The Opponent Has A Powerful Set Of Skills
Rilai is not necessarily tough to beat, but it can be tricky to face them. The Local Legend is capable of teleporting across the map, so you’ll often see yourself striking the wind when they blink out of their current location. Another aspect of her kit is her ability to hurl explosive barrels at you. Naturally, these will deal AoE Pyro DMG to your active character, but Rilai often throws these barrels right after they teleport, meaning that if you are continuously striking, you may accidentally trigger the barrel’s explosion, dealing immense damage to your own character in Genshin Impact.

To avoid getting damaged by these explosive barrels, you should pay more attention to your character’s movements and avoid spamming melee attacks just to get more damage in. If your main DPS, who often has less HP than a shielder or a healer, is unprotected while attacking, they could get one-shot by a barrel’s explosion – especially if they are poorly built. As annoying as they are, the secret to beating Rilai is having patience. This also applies to another of the Local Legend’s attacks. On occasion, Rilai will send out Cryo missiles that follow your character in Genshin Impact.
To avoid these tracking missiles, you’ll need to move around and dodge accordingly. It’s important to note that these missiles move quickly, so you could get hit a few times, especially if you run out of stamina. The third and final attack used by Rilai has a special name: Fusion Nova. This attack sees the Local Legend start conjuring a hailstorm of giant ice rocks that deal AoE Cryo DMG upon impact. Their impact is telegraphed by circles on the map.
Overall, Fusion Nova attacks are easy to avoid in Genshin Impact, as long as you move around quickly.
While Rilai is conjuring Fusion Nova, they become more vulnerable to attacks. They don’t necessarily take more damage, but this is a moment where they are extremely exposed to your offensive efforts. Of course, if you choose to attack them, the Fusion Nova’s AoE Cryo DMG zones will target the area where your active character is, so you need to measure the risks and rewards according to your chosen team comp. Rilai is not tough to bring down, but they can melt through your characters if you are unprepared.
The best team comps to bring to the fight are those with a shielder, a healer, or both. I highly recommend a shielder like Zhongli, Thoma, Layla, or the upcoming Citlali in Genshin Impact. Zhongli has one of the best shields in the game, while Thoma can help you absorb damage from the explosive barrels with more efficiency. Layla and Citlali could help absorb the Cryo DMG from her missiles and Fusion Nova with more efficiency. Avoiding damage altogether is the best way of succeeding in the fight against this Local Legend.
Of course, a healer would be a great backup plan if your shielder’s protection wears off or is broken. As was mentioned, Rilai’s attacks hit hard, so having a decent healer is a great way of mitigating the possible damage you will take. Even though some of the best healers are of this element, it’s highly recommended that you don’t use a Hydro healer to face Rilai since you can get yourself Frozen – the majority of this Local Legend’s attacks are Cryo-based, so it’s very easy to get yourself temporarily paused if you are affected by your own healer’s Hydro.
The same logic applies to other Hydro characters that can get your team comp touched by the element – a single missile from Rilai could then Freeze you and leave you open to more damage from other attacks.
Protecting your team’s members and being patient so as to not take unnecessary damage are the pillars of this Local Legend encounter, as chaotic as it may seem with their abilities. With all of this in mind, you should have an easy time beating the Local Legend Rilai in Genshin Impact, even if it takes a while longer than most opponents.

There are three different Achievements related to the Local Legend Rilai. The first of them is the easiest to obtain, as this Achievement only requires you to beat Rilai for the first time. Once they are defeated, you will unlock this. The second Achievement is a bit more tricky, as it only unlocks if you are able to defeat Rilai while they are using their Fusion Nova attack. As such, you may need to hold off on your attacks to deplete Rilai’s HP once they start conjuring Fusion Nova in Genshin Impact.
Related Genshin Impact 5.3 Leaks Show Building Characters Is Getting Much Easier A series of quality-of-life updates and system optimizations have been leaked for Genshin Impact 5.3, hinting at an easier time building characters.
The third and final Achievement related to Rilai is the toughest of them all. To obtain it, you will need to beat Rilai while they are using Fusion Nova and without getting hit by their attacks. This means you will need to be quick on your feet so as to hit the opponent and not get struck. Even if the Achievement is straightforward, it could be hard to obtain in the first few tries. The first Achievement grants you five Primogems, while the second offers you 10 Primogems. The third Achievement obtained from Rilai will net you 20 Primogems.
As is the case with most opponents, Rilai respawns with the game’s daily server reset. Rilai is the perfect example of what a Local Legend is: a tough opponent that stands out from the regular overworld enemies with an exclusive set of abilities, a high damage potential, and a large HP bar. Even so, it should be fairly easy to beat Rilai, even if her other Achievements in Genshin Impact are a bit more complicated to obtain.
