Hunter x Hunter's Author Confirms the Series Is Not Going Away For Long

The man with the most unintelligible X handle, Yoshihiro Togashi, has used his massively popular account to update fans on his health status, and to reassure them indirectly that Hunter x Hunter is not going to stay away for long. After the latest batch of chapters dropped on Weekly Shonen Jump, fans of the series were saddened by the announcement of a new hiatus, but it seems Togashi is still working hard and his health, while always troublesome, is still under control.

News of Togashi's improved health has been circulating for a while, making fans hope that they would finally be able to read more than ten new chapters of Hunter x Hunter every few years. The announcement that the manga was moving from a weekly schedule (that the author has been unable to keep for many years, anyway) to an irregular one, tailored upon Togashi's needs, also seemed to hint at a brighter future for the manga and its fans. This latest announcement seems to confirm that, while it shouldn't be expected to see a new chapter of Hunter x Hunter every week, the years-long hiatuses of the past are, hopefully, gone.

Hunter x Hunter's Togashi Keeps Working on His Manga

Fans Can Expect New Chapters Soon

On December 11, 2024, Togashi shared on X a picture of the bottom of some pages, accompanying it with a statement that the storyboard of a new chapter has been completed. He also explained that he was forced to stay in bed for a few days, but he has recovered enough to walk around the house. This comes a few days after the announcement that Togashi had back surgery, following the news of Hunter x Hunter's new hiatus.

The following day, on December 12, Togashi shared a similar picture of another completed storyboard. He added that progress is slow because he is still unable to sit on a chair comfortably, so he will focus on the storyboards for the moment.

Despite the regretful tone, this message is actually quite hopeful for fans of Togashi and his series. It should be remembered that the mangaka was almost bedirdden for the past years due to his back issues, unable to work at all sitting on a chair, except for the short periods of time when he endured the pain to produce a bunch of new chapters. Between his surgery, which will hopefully help improve his back, and the fact that he is working with a regular schedule, Togashi seems to be in a much better place now.

Togashi's Fans Will Keep Supporting Him No Matter What

One of the best things about Togashi's debut on X is that it shows the outpour of support his fans will always give to the author. Not only his account reached over three million followers (despite a very weird handle) quickly, but fans keep showing their support every time he posts something, always making sure to remind the sensei to take care of his health first and foremost. In the often toxic environment of the anime and manga social media world, Togashi's incredible fans are a true testament to the value of his work.

While it's impossible to predict exactly when Hunter x Hunter will return to Shonen Jump, Togashi seems hard at work, and his health seems to be improving slowly. Hopefully, 2025 will see the release of multiple batches of chapters, an unprecedented treat for fans of Hunter x Hunter.
