The Golden Bachelorette’s Joan Vassos Reveals If Long-Distance Drama Is Hurting Relationship Amid Signs Life With Chock Isn’t Perfect
The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos revealed that she and Chock Chapple are facing some challenges due to their long-distance relationship as Christmas approaches. Joan, a 61-year-old private school administrator from Rockville, Maryland, and Chock, a 60-year-old insurance executive from Wichita, Kansas, got engaged at the end of The Golden Bachelorette season 1. Since the show ended, they've been searching for an apartment in New York City, but they also plan to keep their houses in their home states as well.
Joan admitted that it's been difficult for her and Chock to coordinate their schedules during the busy Christmas season.
In an interview with FOX5 DC, Joan admitted that it's been difficult for her and Chock to coordinate their schedules during the busy Christmas season. She explained, "Actually, in this immediate moment, we're thinking about how we're gonna get together for Christmas. And so, logistically, it's a little bit hard. You know, he's all the way in Kansas. I'm here in Maryland. We want to see each other. We were with each other last week in L.A."
Joan then shared why it's been so hard for them to see each other. She said, "But now we have this kind of lull where both of us are really busy. He still has a business in Kansas. I'm trying to get things ready for Christmas at my house. And we're trying to figure out when in the world we can see each other. So, logistically, it's still a little hard."
Although Joan and Chock's long-distance relationship has made getting together challenging for them, Joan shared that things will be changing soon. She said, "There's a light at the end of the tunnel. We're looking for a place in New York City. So that's gonna be like our little pied-à-terre, and where we're gonna meet. And it's a lot easier to get there. It's very hard to get here from Kansas. So there's only one direct flight a week on Wednesdays. So it's a little harder to get here."
Not only will Joan and Chock's New York City apartment solve their literal logistics problem, but Joan shared that it will bring them closer together as a couple in other ways as well. She explained, "Meeting in New York City also just kind of provides us with alone couple time that we still need. This is new. We need our alone couple time."

Many Bachelor Nation couples, including The Golden Bachelor's Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, have blamed long-distance relationships for at least part of the reason that they've broken up. If Joan and Chock don't move in together soon, they could drift apart. Even though they're engaged, their relationship is still so new, and they need the time to really get to know each other. Hopefully, they'll find their place in New York City sooner rather than later, so that they can live like a real couple.
