What's Going On With Juliette In Silo Season 2 Episode 5? Why She Fainted
Warning! This article contains spoilers for Silo season 2.
Before Silo season 2 episode 5's credits start rolling, Juliette collapses to the ground, making it hard not to wonder what suddenly happened to her. While things escalate quickly inside Silo 18 in season 2's episode 5, Juliette's arc progresses at a snail's pace as she struggles to find the right equipment to build herself a suit. Fortunately, for her, she finally finds a semblance of hope when she discovers a list of apartments that could have the suit.
However, just when she believes she is making some progress, she notices some discrepancies in Solo's recollection of his past and identity. Things get even worse when she suddenly starts feeling sick. Solo suspects that working tirelessly without eating is making her weak, which also makes sense since Juliette has been trying too hard to build herself a suit. Towards the closing moments of Silo season 2's episode 5, though, a revelation confirms that Juliette's illness has less to do with her work ethic and more with a severe underlying condition.
Juliette's Arm Wound Is Infected & Making Her Sick In Silo Season 2 Episode 5
She Injured Her Arm Soon After Entering Silo 17

Moments before Silo season 2's episode 5 ends, Juliette checks a wound on her left arm and notices that it is infected. This confirms that she is progressively getting sicker as the infection is spreading beyond the surface of the wound. The fact that she collapses to the ground in episode 5's ending moments suggests the infection has reached a critical point and significantly weakened her body. Given how she is portrayed as a tough-as-nails protagonist who has overcome many challenges in the past, her collapse signals how dire her situation has become.
Related Why The Tape Is So Important In Silo Season 2 After being a primary driver of Juliette's narrative in Silo season 1's ending, the heat tape continues to play a crucial role in season 2's story.
While it is hard to point out the exact moment she injured herself, she likely cut her arm when she fell through Silo 18's thrash chute in Silo season 1's ending arc. Or, she might have injured it while breaking into Silo 17. Regardless of the reason behind the injury, it undoubtedly spells trouble for her. She manages to find a usable helmet towards the end of Silo season 2's episode 5. However, in her critical state, she may not be able to walk back to Silo 18 unless she somehow recovers from the infection. Recovery may only be possible if she gets access to proper medication.
How Juliette's Wound Got Infected In Silo
Two Factors May Have Contributed To The Infection

Moments before Juliette enters Silo 17 in season 2's early moments, she notices a tear in the sleeve of her suit. This prompts her to rush inside before the outside world's harsh environment can get to her. It seems possible that the tear in her suit exposed her arm to the outside world, which contributed to the infection. The infection likely escalated during Juliette's early mission to find a way to get to the other side of Silo 17. When Juliette first entered the new Silo, she noticed that the bridges connecting its two ends had been intentionally destroyed.
According to the original lore in Hugh Howey's Silo books, the silos have 144 levels, with each level being 40 feet high.
To get from one side to the other, she hung down two ropes from the railing of an upper level and tried to swing across. However, to her dismay, the rope broke and sent her down in the water that flooded the Silo's lower levels. Since moist environments encourage bacterial growth and the water in the Silo's lower levels was also stagnant and contaminated, it infected her wound. Juliette seemingly ignored the initial symptoms of the infection because she was fixated on building a suit for herself. However, as seen in episode 5, the infection eventually worsened and sapped her strength.

She Will Not Be Able To Make It Back Alone

Given how the infection has significantly weakened Juliette, she could die if she does not get immediate medical attention. Since Solo has been living in Silo 17 all his life, only he can tell her where she can access medicine. Solo has been an unreliable narrator and even lied about many aspects of his identity and past. However, despite this, he seems good at heart and will likely find a way to help Juliette before it is too late.
...If Solo helps Juliette in Silo season 2's next episode, Juliette will likely have to pay him back by helping him drain the water from the Silo before it reaches the IT.
Even when Juliette starts showing symptoms of illness, Solo rushes back to the vault to get her food. This highlights that even though he is apprehensive about telling her the truth about his past, he genuinely cares for her and would not let her die. However, if Solo helps Juliette in Silo season 2's next episode, Juliette will likely have to pay him back by helping him drain the water from the Silo before it reaches the IT.
